The withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan

Things that are not part of politics happening presently and how we approach or address it as Anabaptists.

Might be time to let the Afghanis decide how to deal with this. We’ve been there for 20 years and haven’t helped the situation.
They were trying to car-bomb American targets at the airport not the Taliban HQ. Or are you that trusting of the Taliban and their capabilities to think they can properly secure the evacuation zone and protect the lives of US soldiers and evacuees without US help? When we do wrap up and leave in short order it will be their problem.

I would also given greater than even odds that the Taliban and US military are currently cooperating on intelligence against ISIS and that Taliban might even be directing the US military where to strike.
Which is even more disturbing. We need to just get out of the region and stop messing with it.

Other counties are evacuating their people okay like the UK - America is really incompetent here.
Well, we are out now. At least officially. I'm sure the covert wars will continue unabated.

And there are hundreds of Americans left behind.

Reporter Clarissa Ward (who has been reporting out of Afghanistan for several weeks) reports on a Texas family abandoned in Afghanistan. “They had been going to the airport for two weeks trying desperately to get out. They all have American passports...They couldn’t get past the Taliban.”

Joe Biden 3/6/ 2020 “This is the United States of America. We treat each other with dignity, we leave nobody behind, and we give hate no safe harbor”.

Not a lot of grace in that statement. And the Bible does give instruction about speaking evil of earthly rulers.

The intention is to keep helping people leave Afghanistan even if there is not a military presence there. A judgement had to be made as to whether the US troops should be subjected to more terrorist attacks while attempting to get the remaining people out of the country. It is one of those situations in which either choice could turn out badly.

The truth needs to be told here Ernie. The Bible says a lot about that. I seem to remember a lot of criticism over president Trump on this forum.

Ephesians 5:11:. Have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but expose them.

People vote for our presidents. There is nothing biblical about hiding their sins and mistakes since truth needs to be told for people to make informed decisions

The last five transport planes that left Afghanistan yesterday had zero Americans on it

I edited the post.

However I think Matthew 7:20 applies: “Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.”

Is pointing out the obvious about an earthly ruler, speaking evil of him/her? I don't think so. That would mean all earthly rulers are above reproach and criticism, no matter how evil their actions.

Was pointing out the obvious about Edward Kennedy driving drunk and off a bridge, causing the the brutal drowning death of a young woman, speaking evil ?

Was pointing out the obvious about Bill Clinton abominable actions with interns speaking evil?

Is pointing out the lying tongue of a leader, who lied about the cause of car accident that killed his wife and daughter, cheated in law school, lied about his grades, plagiarized speeches, lied about his GPA, lied about scholarships, etc., speaking evil.

I find it a bit hypocritical that we had a almost daily drumbeat of castigating a leader from about 2018 to 2020, and some people here were silent. Yet now pointing out the obvious lies of a leader, is "speaking evil"??

But I suppose that would be a whole other topic.

Do we know why? Was there reasons for it? Or were they simply unable to evacuate them?

Not true. The last to people to board the last plane were the commanding general and top American diplomat for Afghanistan. There are pictures of it. The last plane was full of soldiers who were securing the airport until that point.
