Well when I took a look I determined there is very little about the actual progress or lack there of with Russian troops. Makes me feel like they are doing poor but I find it hard to believe the claims of Ukraine's efficiency against the Russian army.

It’s my sense that the Russian media is not really reporting on troop progress. If the Russians aren’t reporting and you don’t trust Western sources, I don’t know what to tell you.
It’s worth noting that a lot of browsers have machine translation built in and will automatically translate websites.

Russia is in denial about the fact that they are even in a war. It is illegal to call it a war in Russia. So it is not surprising that their state media organs aren't reporting it as such.Szdfan wrote: ↑Sat Mar 26, 2022 10:12 pmIt’s my sense that the Russian media is not really reporting on troop progress. Re: Russia Invades Ukraine 2022
Valid question, esp from a veteran. In the propaganda wars, it’s impossible to know. The NYT knows its audience well.
This (below) may be the most balanced report (i’ve seen).
Most are framed that Ukraine is dominating (the story everyone wants to read).
Feb 25 / “Ukraine’s military is outgunned but can still inflict a great deal of pain on Russian forces”
https://theconversation.com/ukraines-mi ... ces-177884
Not unlike David+Goliath, outcomes should not be taken for granted. No matter how it looks on paper, or in the papers... The vaunted Russian armed forces have already deployed a large proportion of their ground troops, and have a very limited capability either to occupy ground contested by insurgents or – even more importantly – to sustain operations beyond the first “break-in” phase of the war. The last thing Putin wants is a protracted war, with bloody urban combat and echoes of Chechnya – which is what Ukrainian forces are likely to give him.
War takes its own course, but the likely and sensible Ukrainian approach will be to trade land for time.
They will hope to inflict casualties and draw Russian forces into urban areas where their advantages are less pronounced.
In the event of defeat in the field, Ukraine’s defenders could well default to a well-armed, highly-motivated and protracted insurgency, probably supported by the west. This is Putin’s nightmare.
The other side of that particular coin is that western support of such “terrorism” could attract an unpredictable and highly dangerous response.
In his “declaration of war” speech Putin threatened “such consequences as you have never encountered in your history” to those who “try to hinder us”, clearly referencing Russia’s vast nuclear arsenal. In the face of defeat or humiliation rationality may be in short supply.
This piece suggests Ukraine prefers a protracted war. i’m not sure what can be done with that.
Add in biden’s hawkish rhetoric, and actions, prayers for resolution are evermore important.
“Protracted,” unfortunately, could pull in China, N Korea, others.

Re: Russia Invades Ukraine 2022
I just looked at Komsomolskaya Pravda (which is a tabloid), which provided rather detailed numbers of Ukrainian losses, but hardly anything on Russian losses.Ken wrote: ↑Sat Mar 26, 2022 10:31 pmRussia is in denial about the fact that they are even in a war. Re: Russia Invades Ukraine 2022
i’m not sure what difference it makes trying to understand what Russian citizens are told.
no one disputes that we in the west are not given full balanced facts, not only for partisan politics, propaganda, but for privacy, matters of litigation, national security.
the surprise would be if this were not true.

She gets into several points in this report, there is video+text. (Read with skepticism, like everything else.)
i presumed she was exaggerating about Zelensky dancing in black leather pants+stilettos. Nope.
There are lots of pictures/videos of him “Dancing with the Stars”/Beyonce style.
Much more to pray about now.![]()
Not so much that he danced in vulgar ways. Common in the world.
But, how cozy is he with far left agenda? N. Pelosi’s message to him from Billie Jean King makes sense now. He’s a hollywood guy.
Is he trying to compete with Justin Trudeau??!

Having said that, she then got to the meat of her allegations charging that there are those here and abroad that want a bigger war
and don’t want de-escalation of the conflict. .. ..

there is worse than this. (mods, please decide whether to remove it.)
this is not a central point in LL’s above report. it’s a part i mistakenly thought she exaggerated.
“Sean Penn says he will 'smelt' his Oscars 'in public' if President Zelensky is not invited to appear at Academy Awards”
https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/sea ... 03032.html
Thankfully, comments following this article are quite negative about Mr Penn’s arrogance, and the Oscars.
i’m not a fan of either.
It’s very very easy for me to see Zelensky as a purely innocent victim.
i have to make an effort to “get real” about what’s going on there. Not just regarding Z+Ukraine and P-Russia, but all CONTRIBUTING players, as well. i WANT to believe the U.S. and West have pure motives. Unfortunately, those days are past.

Re: Russia Invades Ukraine 2022
I think that’s an admirable though difficult thing to do. From my own reading, it seems that Russian media is painting a completely different picture of the war to the point that Russians don’t believe their Ukrainian relatives when they tell them over the phone that they’re being bombed.Soloist wrote: ↑Sat Mar 26, 2022 11:31 pmyeah well I like seeing both sides to see a glimmer of the real data.Szdfan wrote: ↑Sat Mar 26, 2022 10:12 pm
