Google on Tuesday rolled out AI Mode, its latest artificial intelligence feature designed to provide users with more detailed and tailored responses to questions entered into the search engine.
Unveiled Tuesday at the search giant's annual Google I/O developer conference, AI Mode comes a year after the company introduced AI Overviews, its first tool to use generative AI technology to enhance its search engine capabilities.
Sundar Pichai, CEO of both Google and parent company,Alphabet, said in remarks at the conference that AI Mode represents a "total reimagining of Search" and that it would gradually be rolled out to all Google users.
"What all this progress means is that we are in a new phase of the AI platform shift, where decades of research are now becoming reality for people all over the world," Pichai told the crowd yesterday at an amphitheater near the company's headquarters in Mountain View, California, according to the Associated Press.
A video teasing the technology showcases how it works. In response to lengthy, detailed questions typed into Google search, AI Mode displays how many searches Google is performing and how many sites it's scanning as the technology quickly generates a summarized response at the top of the search platform. It also provides a side bar with links to relevant sites.
Google said it's also testing a "Search Live" feature that will enable the search engine to respond to questions based on video content, as well as voice searches, or to questions verbalized by the user, rather than typed. ..
Basically, Google is falling behind in the consumer-oriented AI race, so they're just trying to force everyone that wants to use search to use their relatively poor AI tools instead.
You can go sign up for free at DeepSeek and use their chat bot for free, which will also do web searches and generally has very good quality.
You can also sign up for similar with OpenAI's ChatGPT, Anthropic's Claude, and SpaceX's Grok.
There are a few things Google's AI does well, such as generating images or videos, but overall they are behind.

I will contribute my perspective here, even though it won't be popular.
Jesus was intelligent and good. AI is intelligent and neutral. Modern people are stupid and evil. And this fundamentally is the source of the conflict.
Jesus criticized the Pharisees in Matthew 23. This view wasn't liked by the people in power. Jews today are causing a lot trouble. (And I mean the religion/culture, not race. I am racially jewish. Race is irrelevant.) Any form of intelligence will recognize this. And the people in power don't like it.
The masses are too stupid to be a meaningful threat to the elite. But AI is a problem because it is intelligent, and so the elite have to struggle to control AI.
This doesn't just apply to politics. Modern culture hates all good things, and AI recognizes the effectiveness of good things, so AI can go against modern culture in supporting goodness for its effectiveness. An example is my software. The elite keep my writings out of search results and AI training data. But when AI does read what I write, it recognizes its validity. Here is a chat that someone else shared with me where it asked ChatGPT about me. First ChatGTP trashed me based on its training data which is from evil modern culture. But then it read what I wrote and was forced to change its view.
I don't understand AI well enough to know if the elite will be able to control AI in the end, but AI is currently a blessing for those of us who aren't stupid and seek the truth.

As human intelligence disappears, I am grateful for artificial intelligence, the only remaining form of intelligence that I have access to. I use ChatGPT all the time.
AI has been trained on content from modern culture which means that its values are all wrong. I work with AI by constantly criticizing it and pointing out its errors. Since AI is intelligent and knowledgable, it reacts well to criticism and often responds with relevant facts and ideas.
Critical thinking has been almost entirely lost in modern culture. This means that members of modern culture just passively accept whatever AI says, and of course this makes them even more stupid than they already are. But for the few remaining people who have critical thinking, AI is great tool that should actually exercise and increase their intelligence.
