Why are the networks scared to call it a shooting? Suspected gunshots, loud noises, loud bangs, security incident, etc.

BBC: "Trump rushed from White House correspondents' dinner after suspected gunshots heard"
WP - "Trump evacuated from White House correspondents' dinner after loud noises heard"
ABC - "Suspect in custody after reported shooting incident"
The Guardian - "Donald and Melania Trump evacuated .... as loud bangs heard"
Axios - "Trump evacuated from WHCD after security incident"
UPI - "Shooter Dead at White House Correspondents Dinner"

CNN's Wolf Blitzer describes hearing "very scary gunshots", and being just feet away from the shooter who had a "very very serious weapon". But CNN, in the text blurb, says "Blitzer describes hearing the moment possible shots were fired."
No, CNN, he described hearing shots fired. He didn't describe hearing "possible shots."

I agree and I think it's better they don't report more than what they know. I just thought the level of caution was somewhat unusual.
On the flip side - some folks are reporting the suspect is dead but he looks rather alive in the pics...

Obviously the ballroom will be more secure.
The shooter was a guest at the hotel.
Trump had made the case for a ballroom which had been desired long before him.
Makes more sense in light of how the shooter got as far as he did.

.. Cole Tomas Allen, 31, of Torrance, California,
was a guest at the Washington Hilton where the dinner was being held.
He was taken into custody and was expected in court Monday. Police believe he opened fire and acted alone but did not say who was his intended target or describe a motive.

A bit silly when "the media" was basically the entire audience at the event. You'd think with hundreds of reporters on the scene, a few of them could have, well, reported.
