Plain background people in Lancaster who don't seem to be aware other places exist.
One of the more amusing things about plain people from the Lancaster area are ones who seemingly have no awareness that people live in other places. Some of these people are now getting on Telegram groups since their church rules allow them to do so, and a large squad of them joined some groups that were formerly just Holdemans (primarily in Holdeman areas, which is not Lancaster).
So a person asks about car washes... and the person recommends a car wash in Lancaster.
Someone asks where to get some kind of fabric related thing. List of places to go in Lancaster.
It's simply quaint to see someone so provincial.

When we first lived to Medina OH, we had a publication that came out weekly & each week was an interview with an Amish man. You could tell he was simply unaware of all kinds of things, I remember his response to find out how many people attend a Cleveland Indians game. I tried not to covet his life I found so appealing.JohnH wrote: ↑Mon Dec 29, 2025 5:34 pm One of the more amusing things about plain people from the Lancaster area are ones who seemingly have no awareness that people live in other places. One of my friends moved to a community in another state so it was enjoyable reading the community updates.

Yes ,a good number of Lancaster people are confident they're the center of everything , it must be an aye-opener when they ride the busses to Sarasota Fl in the winter ,and see so many other places represented among the plain people there...
Lets not forget that the Lancaster Pa. Amish ,and Mennonites once saved the whole Canadian Amish setup, back in the early 1800's ,when all their land was being taken away from them, the King reclaimed it somehow....They loaded a sturdy wagon with gold and silver money ,raised by the Lancaster Amish and Mennonites, and sent it up there to Canada, and redeemed it...Not making this up, it happened....

No, the story is older than you. Actually my opinion is - I think Sam Bricker and Daniel Erb made it up.Jeff Altweg wrote: ↑Tue Dec 30, 2025 9:44 am Yes ,a good number of Lancaster people are confident they're the center of everything , it must be an aye-opener when they ride the busses to Sarasota Fl in the winter ,and see so many other places represented among the plain people there...
