The most recent hostage transfer seems to have gone smoothly so that is good news.

More than a million Gazans have received food since the ceasefire. 4200 truckloads per week. Rafah border crossing reopens. But there are still challenges getting aid to the most needy.

Re: Gaza - Post Ceasefire 2025
If you mean Trump's announcement below, in my opinion it is crucial what Trump means by the Palestinians being resettled. If it means forcibly removing people from their intact homes and communities on a permanent basis, not ethical. If it means they give opportunity for voluntary, temporary resettlement for those whose homes and communities have been destroyed, while housing and infrastructure is rebuilt, maybe ethical, maybe viable, but it would require some trust on the part of those communities and that is pretty unlikely.Thomas_muntzer wrote: ↑Thu Feb 06, 2025 12:23 pmErnie wrote: ↑Tue Jan 28, 2025 9:50 pm This is a thread to discuss developments in Gaza after the ceasefire that took place between Israel and Hamas on Sunday, January 19, 2025.

I have no idea what should be done over there. It's a problem for the kingdoms of this world to settle. The Palestinians in Gaza supported Hamas, a terror organization, as their elected government for all these years and it has cost them tremendously. If the international community does nothing different from what it has done, sending in aid as usual, and Gaza rebuilds under the same sort of government, all of this will happen again down the road.
These people hate Israel and do not want to live as peaceful neighbors. What can the international community do about that, really? Not a whole lot in my view. As unethical or unviable as Trump's ideas may seem, it's not surprising that they are floating the subject. If you just walk away from the situation, nothing will change, and the violence will continue as it has since '48.

Yes i understand it's a complex topic. I don't think it's only the kingdoms of the world should settle this the bible mention gaza several times and one of the reasons hamas exist is because palestinians can't have a proper army to fight against them. The last time it was elections al - fatah won the elections and we must distinguish between civilian population and actors of the conflict if not the IDF would be in the same level of hamas.mike wrote: ↑Thu Feb 06, 2025 12:41 pmIf you mean Trump's announcement below, in my opinion it is crucial what Trump means by the Palestinians being resettled. Re: Gaza - Post Ceasefire 2025
Palestinians will not voluntarily leave Gaza. After all, they are returning now even though Gaza is largely destroyed.
The proposal seems to assume that 2 million Gazans will simply disappear to make room for Trump's real estate plans. It also assumes this will not energize Hamas and other terrorist groups. Trump says specifically that American troops would not be needed to defend Gaza. There's no discussion of the possibility that this would encourage terrorists to attack the United States or convince Arabs and Muslims worldwide that the United States really does deserve the title "The Great Satan".
I assume this would be a great financial opportunity for The Trump Corporation. I imagine it would bring American troops back into the Middle East, not as a neutral party but as the country that took over the remaining homeland of Palestinians in order to make it a playground for the wealthy. And Trump isn't exactly inviting the Palestinians to come live in the United States.
This would not end well. And it won't happen, either. It's a fantasy, a fantasy rooted in a wish that the problem would simply go away if we imagine Palestinians do not exist. This is like George Bush's fantasy that the Iraqis will welcome us with open arms if we only invade them. That's not what happened.

1. Are we discussing the topic? Good.
2. Are we going around and around in a fight? Let's stop doing that.
3. Is there some serious wrongdoing or relational injury? Let's address that, probably not in public and certainly not for show.

In the extremely unlikely chance that this happens, it will lead to war.Bootstrap wrote: ↑Thu Feb 06, 2025 5:46 pm Palestinians will not voluntarily leave Gaza. After all, they are returning now even though Gaza is largely destroyed.
