“Don't be fooled by Publishers Clearing House Impostor Scams”
http://komonews.com/news/consumer/dont- ... stor-scams

i think i just got one of these calls. :-|

caller ID said, “RESTRICTED.”
i answered, thinking it might be my phone service, or something.
i usually do not answer any number i do not recognize.

a man identified himself as David Anderson. i’m not sure that was a real name.

he said i won a prize with Publishers Clearinghouse.
i have not entered or purchased from them.

he asked if i had something in mail.
i told him my mailbox is damaged, i go to the P.O., weather depending.

i was uncomfortable+skeptical.

he did NOT ask for my name or other info.
he left a tel number, 1-876-294-4222.

i found the above warning report, i tried to call the number they offered, 800-392-4190, it is after business hours. i’ll call them tomorrow.

from what the warning report says, i suppose i’ll be getting more calls like this. :(
i do not feel good about this.

what does caller ID “RESTRICTED” mean? who gets to use that? hmm.

I believe anyone with an unlisted number shows up as Restricted.

yes. i later found that. thank you. :-|
(before, i’d only seen it when Verizon was calling me. so, i thot, “i’d better answer.”)

i really felt awful i actually spoke with that guy that called. i felt it would lead to regrets.

so far, so good.
the next day i received 3 odd calls (i did not recognize Caller ID, did not answer).
one was UNAVAILABLE. i ignored all.
thankfully, no voicemail messages! yet.

for awhile, i was getting odd calls, recorded messages in Asian languages, they often left annoying voice mail messages. the numbers were mixed, some even using local Area Codes! so annoying.
they rarely duplicated a number, so, hard/impossible to block.

i don’t get unwanted calls all the time.
but, in recent months, there have been more.

Maybe we take things too far, but we don't answer the phone unless we recognize the number.

BANK ACCOUNT ROBBED.

i just got a call about possible fraudulent charges made on my local bank DEBIT card today.
i did not buy anything today.

i was told there were 3 charges, $500 each, to ZEL - ARTHUR JENKINS - MINNEAPOLIS.
i never heard of ZEL, or Arthur Jenkins. i was told ZEL is similar to PAYPAL.

my card was cancelled.
i will go to the bank to get a new card, new account number, tomorrow. :-|

after the call, i checked my account online.
sure enough, the account was gutted and overdrawn. $$$

Now some years ago, similar happened with a credit card.
i received a call about some charges for gasoline in Chicago. i do not drive in Chicago.
my card was cancelled, they mailed a replacement with a new account number right away.

i’m really glad banks have the means to spot fraudulent charges quickly. :)
it would all be so much worse.

EMAIL SPAM. :-|

THE DAILY GRIND
i’m getting emails with this name.
when i try to “UNSUBSCRIBE” nothing happens, the link does not work.

worse, they send different emails that appear to come from different sources, but, at the bottom of the email, near the not-functioning “UNSUBSCRIBE” link, is their name, THE DAILY GRIND.

i’m trying to figure out how to block everything from them.
so far, i’m not “winning.”

That's good. Clicking links in unwanted email is not a safe practice, and is likely to increase rather than decrease the amount of incoming spam. Mark it as Junk in your email reader (the entire domain, if possible) instead.

ok. thank you. i’m trying to do this.
i found the word, “spam,” that must be “junk?”

i marked 21 of these as spam emails last night. (several days’ emails.)
they went to the spam folder. so, i delete from there?

already today, my inbox has no new emails, they are in the spam folder. (i hope.) :D
they must go to spam? then delete? no true blocking?

i found this tutorial, it’s helpful, but it doesn’t exactly match the prompts on my device:

”iPad Tips : How to Block Mail From an iPad”

DEBIT CARD. :D
i spoke with my bank today.
they are correcting everything and will issue a replacement card today.

Whatever i ended up doing, per oj’s instruction, it seems to be working well. YAY. :D
Thank you, again, oj, for great counsel. :D
DEBIT CARD. :D

i visited with my local bank VP. it’s a bit complicated, but getting worked out. :)
my card was cancelled+replaced, on the spot.
HOWEVER, my bank account will be overdrawn for - up to 10 days.
he told me, legally, the bank has 10 business days to correct, but he finds most cases are corrected in a few days. he said this one appears obviously fraudulent, but, no promises regarding “how many days.”

he said the bank will cover payments, overdraft fees will show, but, once corrected, those will be removed. (i chose “overdraft protection” when i first got the debit card. never before used it.)
i’ve had no bank “mishaps” in decades. they take all this into consideration.

until correction, i’m trying not to use any banking, debit card, checks, auto-pay.
it’s amazing how much i rely on these services. lol

i keep some cash with me for emergencies. how far will $47 go this week?
i think i can make it ok. (well. $20 now.)

i read that debit cards can expose your bank accounts to fraud, moreso than credit cards.
now i see how that is. the VP said personal checks are the most vulnerable. i write about 4-6 annually.

i like the debit card.
it’s handy, does not tempt debt, AND, my bank does not report their debit cards to any credit bureau. thus, no impact on credit score. i do not use ATM machines.

my son advises getting rid of the debit card.
he uses a credit card, pays it off each month. i get it. we used to do this.
but, in my present life, i fear temptation to over spend. :-|

i now wonder, “what if” this happened when i’m out of state visiting family? not good.
i suppose i’d have to “crank out” a credit card.
