To stop the US from imposing blockades, to drive the US military off their soil...
Could China feasibly do either of those things?
They could apply some pressure by threatening invasion of Taiwan and offer to back down if the US pulls out of Cuba.
I heard there was fear that Trump would do something like trade the security of Taiwan in exchange for China's support of US goals in Iran during his state visit this week, but he didn't need to do that. Apparently the US is in a good position of strength vis a vis China, which stated its support for the strait of Hormuz not being under Iran's control and for the idea that Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon. I doubt Cuba even figures in China's calculations in any way. The oil it gets from Iran (or used to get) would matter much more, I think. And apparently they are going to buy more of that from the US now.
Actions matter more than words, so we'll see about all that. But it sure looks like Cuba is being starved into submission to the United States and there's not much they can do about it, and not much anybody else can do to help. Doesn't seem like a real nice thing to do, but it is happening apparently.

I just read that Rubio (who is Cuban) offered $100 million in humanitarian aid to the people of Cuba. The Communist government there refused it. It looks to be their govt is starving their own people.

It’s probably in their best interest to deal in some fashion…
I don’t approve of how it’s coming about but based off what America did with Venezuela… they either capitulate or end up with losing the power they have to begin with.
Possible they can drag out things long enough for a political change in America and go back to how things were…

So the US is starving them of oil and simultaneously offering them aid with strings attached. This is not really the kind of aid that reflects actual generosity. They're boxing them in. And they are getting ready to indict Raul Castro in US court. Maduro Raid 2.0 coming up.

As I’m understanding it the Cuban Castro regime was a link in the embargoed oil chain that allowed hostile nations to continue their aggressive military build-up. The aid being offered is to help the average Cuban survive without begging for the dregs of the oil profit. I’m glad to see that they’re taking the help now. The Castro regime turned it down at first because they didnt like the fact that there’s a 3rd party that will be distributing the aid to cut down on the possible theft of the aid by govt members.
