Re: Coronavirus Outbreak
What do they do besides recommend how to safely clean up blood spills after an accident? It doesn’t involve forcing people to make a "choice" between ingesting a foreign substance into their body or losing their job.
You're comparing apples with oranges.

I was simply pointing out that it is clear from the context of the quote and the surrounding paragraphs that Sotomayor was talking about Hep B, Hep C, and HIV and not incorrectly claiming that Covid is a blood-borne virus as Josh asserted. Nothing more than that. You may disagree with the various justices on the right or on the left. Lots of people on the left disagree with Kavanaugh and Thomas and Alito. But they are generally not stupid people.Falco Underhill wrote: ↑Mon Jan 10, 2022 4:19 pmWhat do they do besides recommend how to safely clean up blood spills after an accident? Sotomayor was clearly asking about previous OSHA regulations of blood born viruses going back to 1991. And asking why if those previous workplace regulations designed to stop the spread of a blood born virus were within the authority of OSHA, why not also regulations to limit the spread of airborne viruses. I provided a link to the entire transcript upstream which is a .pdf so hard to quote from.
You may think that is an apples and oranges comparison. But that is the actual point of law being argued in this case and not something I am arguing one way or the other. I expect they will decide on partisan grounds just like most other recent decisions.

Maybe, but it's like she's not even pretending to be objective in this case - either that or she's just really really bad at it.Ken wrote: ↑Mon Jan 10, 2022 5:01 pm I was simply pointing out that it is clear from the context of the quote and the surrounding paragraphs that Sotomayor was talking about Hep B, Hep C, and HIV and not incorrectly claiming that Covid is a blood-borne virus as Josh asserted. I'm sad for the more than 150,000 children in the US who have lost at least one of their primary caregivers to COVID. Children of racial and ethnic minorities accounted for 65% of those who lost a primary caregiver due to the pandemic according to the NIH study.

Re: Coronavirus Outbreak
What percentage of total children are racial and ethnic minorities? (Hint: it’s very close to 65%)Dan Z wrote: ↑Mon Jan 10, 2022 6:18 pm I'm sad for the more than 150,000 children in the US who have lost at least one of their primary caregivers to COVID. According to the census it is closer to 50%: https://www.childstats.gov/americaschildren/demo.aspJosh wrote: ↑Mon Jan 10, 2022 7:57 pmWhat percentage of total children are racial and ethnic minorities? so racial and ethnic minorities are somewhat disproportionately impacted by Covid, but not exceedingly so. It isn't sparing anyone.

Me too - but I don’t understand what you are implying here? Are you trumping my concerns for the children who’ve lost caregivers to COVID? If so - why?

Re: Coronavirus Outbreak
Yesterday on Christian radio they said there's been over 65 million abortions in the United States alone. I think maybe the implication is many in the church have lost their zeal regarding the unborn compared to their zeal at getting people vaccinated lest they lose a caretaker ( is that a new word for a parent?). I see where he's coming from and without getting into the fact that there is much to do to prevent covid or treat it that has been downplayed censored and ignored all of the blame seems to go on people that don't get vaccinated instead of pointing out there are other means of keeping both parents alive besides a vaccination. What is really troubling to me is how difficult it is for the public to know all the adverse effects and deaths that resulted from vaccines so if there are other ways and treatments and preventatives this should be brought out more often since clearly since many in the medical field will not even get the vaccine it should give you pause to think. Regarding racism they always want to play the racist card without giving the details as to why this is the case.
Yesterday in Akron Ohio there was a protest among those in the medical field at akron's children hospital that refused to take the vaccine and will lose their jobs. They were denied the exemption of having medical and or religious reasons for not wanting the vaccine. They felt strongly enough about it there was a protest in the bitter cold yesterday and they are willing to lose their jobs.
