I have not researched the validity of this, but came across it, so it may not be accurate.

I heard on Christian radio news yesterday that the stock market took a plunge because of Coronavirus-

Re: Coronavirus Outbreak
I haven't looked at the other charts you posted, but I think one of the issues in the way the data is presented is that there's no time frame for how many people have been infected and died from the Coronavirus. What is the rate of infection verses other forms of flu?Robert wrote:To put things into perspective:

Re: Coronavirus Outbreak
The Coronavirus has economic impact. China is not just a major exporter to the US, it also plays an important part of the supply chain for US companies.Valerie wrote:I heard on Christian radio news yesterday that the stock market took a plunge because of Coronavirus-

People aren't going to work, either voluntarily or because of quarantine. They aren't making things. They aren't consuming things. Travel is shut down in quarantine areas and people are afraid to travel -- this impacts the travel and transportation industry.
Also, the CDC predicts there is a high probability that the Coronavirus will spread throughout the US, which will also have negative economic impact as people stay home and don't make things or consume things.
These kinds of conditions freak investors out.

Re: Coronavirus Outbreak
All this is true, but it also could be like the flu and dissipate come spring and summer only to flare in winter. They just don't know yet. Will have to wait to see. Should have a vaccine within a year also. Already has one to test.Szdfan wrote:The Coronavirus has economic impact. If I played the stock market, I would be buying right now.
And lastly, Walmart is opening heath care centers. So you can get better and still shop.

Re: Coronavirus Outbreak
As Szdfan stated, fears of supply chain interruptions and global market decline. The US stock market always overreacts to everything. By the end of the week, it will most likely gain half of what it lost. I feel it was overinflated anyway and needed a correction.Valerie wrote:I heard on Christian radio news yesterday that the stock market took a plunge because of Coronavirus-

Re: Coronavirus Outbreak
Soon after we moved to Brazil, President Reagan went into the hospital for some surgery, and the dollar fell against the Cruzeiro (Brazilian currency at that time). People are easily spooked by just about anything.Szdfan wrote:The Coronavirus has economic impact. DJT seems to understand what impacts the market, his decisions have largely been encouraging to the stock market. i expect this to continue even with the C virus.

Re: Coronavirus Outbreak
I’d say we’ve been overdue for a correction for a while.
The bigger question is the future of globalism and global capitalism. Should the world get more intertwined and less stable just to keep making the top 0.1% even wealthier?
