Or we can hope and pray for the best. Morocco is one of the more stable governments on the African continent. I think Trump should be recognized for the effort instead of the usual bashing that goes on.

I hate to say it, but this would be somewhat like recognizing Indonesia’s sovereignty over East Timor in 2000. Moroccan sovereignty is highly disputed and the UN has been trying to broker peace there for years. I don’t see how this furthers American interests. If Morocco does not win this conflict it may make it really hard to deal with whatever emerges.

Are you objecting because it was Trump who was able to get Muslim nations to recognize Israel in this peace accord? It does not have to further American interests: rather the point is to encourage peace through Muslim recognition of the Nation of Israel, an objective that key players at the UN seem to be against.

As for the UN, much that they have been doing in the past 20 years gives me pause in thinking that their loyalties are highly conflicted and can even be bought. The anti-Israel bias that is associated with many of the recent UN "resolutions" discredits its reputation and reflects instead the political ambitions of specific members in the global arena.

Are you familiar with the Spanish Sahara/Western Sahara conflict? All he is doing now is trading various "perks" to break a boycott. To the best of my knowledge, Morocco never really enforced it, at least they did not deny entry to those with Israeli stamps on their passport. Morocco, UAE and Bahrain never fought Israel. There is no "war" between them and Israel, only a boycott. What we are giving away is advanced fighter jets, and taking sides in a territorial dispute between an independence group set up when Spain left her former colony, and Morocco. All of these could come back to bite us later.

The real conflict is between the Palestinians and Israel. That is the "war", If peace is to be made, it is between them. The rest is simply theatre. It is, in effect, "buying" friends for Israel. I worry about the price.

Iran's threats against Israel are not theatre. There are the incessant violent bents in attitudes against Israel that flare repeatedly through Iranian incitement. Trump decided to use a tack that has been successful in the past in other regions. Rather than appeasement of Iran, he is simply creating a circle of nations who recognize Israel who are A. Muslim and B. Represent a more stable presence in Africa and the Middle East. That is simply good diplomacy. For now it can work as it has in the past. Unless of course successive administrations dismantle it out of a hatred for Trump. It's a shame they let their hatred of Trump interfere with efforts at peace.

Y couldn't even this post be edited?

I also question the wisdom of posting about alternative treatment in the original thread, especially under current circumstances. If you're recommending that Lester go to Italy for some sort of fly-by-night baking soda treatments based on your remote diagnosis, please be aware that Canadians cannot enter Italy, or pretty much anywhere in Europe for that matter. Even if they fly during the day.

Not trying to be picky, but direct address needs a comma before and after. :D We all make typos or grammatical errors, right? Accept for me. :laugh
