What about Simeon and Anna?
I had them in mind, a long with the shepherds, as examples of the correct way to view prophecy. They understood broader meaning without seizing inflexibly on specific details.
How detailed were Simeon's and Anna's expectations and understandings? How do we know?
Jesus said later something like "blessed are those who are not offended by me", whatever Simeon and Anna's expectations were, they were open to the way Jesus fulfilled them. There were plenty who believed in the Messiah but had firm expectations that blinded them to Jesus.

I think you're right.

How do the current events in Israel and possible peace in the region fit in with Dispensationalism's timeline? Is there any thought that, if peace is realized, this could be the false peace of the Anti-Christ, which would signal a soon coming 7 year tribulation?

A brief survey of Internet chatter reveals many people making this claim, but they've done the same thing after pretty much every other ceasefire.

If Trump gets Ukraine and Russia to make peace yet, let's go ahead and tag him as potential antichrist on that basis.

On a serious note, we should be really, really tired by now of the dispensationalist efforts to identify current events with apocalyptic descriptions in Revelation.

Plus the Azeri-Armenian conflict, and while we're at it, the Sinaloa and Jalisco cartels, which are currently at war and producing lots of casualties.

Back before the ceasefire, in conversation I got to hear how Zechariah prophesied the complete destruction of the Palestinian people and that was what was happening. Another man in the conversation (himself premillenial) guffawed when he heard that.

Guess it would be time to change that timeline again?

One thing about the prophetic timeline is that it's quite flexible; dates can be recomputed, and current events, whilst always very significant, are allowed to constantly change and have an entirely new (also very significant) set of prophetic "check list items" they correspond with.
