Last night, the Polish military shot down eight Russian drones in Polish airspace. Looks like an escalation.
It doesn’t appear that Trump’s meeting with Putin has led to anything concrete. Putin is still unwilling to make any concessions and has increased drone strikes in Ukraine. On Sunday, Russia launched 800 missiles and drones against, the largest attack since the war began.
(It appears to me) he sees the dissaray of the divided west and is exploiting it. Testing.
They are testing to see whether Trump is just the latest in a series of US presidents who don't want Russia to just take over Ukraine but also don't want to put up more than token support for Ukraine. Putin appears to be betting Trump won't get upset enough to really do much besides economic sanctions.

Well, what do you know. Looks like Trump's plan for the war is to encourage Ukraine to take back all its lost territory, supply it with weapons via NATO, and hope for Russia to be further diminished through financial challenges. So much for the big talk about peace, the big Trump/Putin meeting, and the braggadocio about getting the war ended.

Sounds like Trump is finally getting fed up with Russia and concluding that they aren't acting in good faith.
I wonder if it was Russia that was the foreign country that reportedly had servers and spying bots all over NYC in advance of the UN summit. There was something on the news about that today where the FBI and Secret Service discovered a huge foreign plot but they weren't saying which country was behind it: https://www.nytimes.com/2025/09/23/us/p ... =url-share

The latest rumored peace plan seems to be less favorable for Ukraine.
The United States is advancing a new peace proposal for ending Russia's war against Ukraine, a plan that Ukrainian officials say mirrors Moscow's maximalist demands and revives concessions the Kremlin had previously dropped.
The framework, approved by U.S. President Donald Trump earlier this week, includes requirements for Ukraine to cede territory, cut its military, and limit its alliances — proposals far more sweeping than those discussed in earlier negotiation rounds.
...
The plan would also require Kyiv to cut its military in half, forgo certain weapons systems, bar foreign troops from serving as ceasefire peacekeepers, and suspend Ukraine's push for NATO membership for years.
In exchange, U.S. officials told the outlet that Moscow would commit to not attacking Ukraine or other European countries and enshrine that pledge in Russian law.
Putin has a history of bending Russia's legal framework — first by exceeding the two-term presidential limit, then extending terms to six years, and ultimately rewriting the Constitution — showing why codifying such a pledge may not guarantee compliance.
The deal also includes what the Telegraph describes as a "rental fee" arrangement in which Russia would make payments for the for de facto control over Donbas territory while legal ownership remained with Kyiv.
The Kyiv Independent has learned from multiple sources that European partners were not involved in drafting the U.S. plan, and Ukraine itself was excluded from the process.
If Ukraine itself was excluded from this process, then it's easy to see how the proposal might not really matter and the war quagmire will continue.

The notion seems to be that Russia and the United States get to negotiate the fate of another country, and that country is just a pawn in their hands?

1. Are we discussing the topic? Good.
2. Are we going around and around in a fight? Let's stop doing that.
3. Is there some serious wrongdoing or relational injury? Let's address that, probably not in public and certainly not for show.
i was interested in T’s ideas for the minerals deal in Ukraine, which i think Z was foolish to reject out of hand.

Ukraine isn’t actually a pawn and the US doesn’t actually have power to force any solution in my opinion. Just economic and military aid incentives which do mean something, but I’m starting to think that an EU that is awake to Russian aggression and is rearming might actually have the wherewithal to prop up the Ukraine without much US help. I think that has been one of Trump’s goals.
