I caught the neighbor's cat today using my back door frame as a scratching post, apparently not for the first time. I was tempted to skin it, but not to put it on the menu for Easter dinner.

i consulted with my young kitty expert regarding your dilemma. she did not hesitate, she suggests you put a scatch-post in front of your door. :) let us know how that works out.

one summer, when our son was young, maybe 3 .. a beautiful white cat appeared on our doorstep.
we told the children, “do not feed him!” he has a home, he will go home.

our neighbor’s young teen daughter wanted him, her mother refused! they had a cat, and dog,

time passed. the cat stayed. it was puzzling. he was not underweight, showed no signs of being “homeless.” so strange. there was no reason for this. why does he not go home?!
he’s so pretty, why hasn’t someone picked him up? this made no sense.

eventually, it became known, the child-next-door was putting cat food for him on-our-doorstep!
o.my. sigh. “the letter of the law” .. somehow .. was twisted.

i gave in. “ok. but, he must be an outdoor cat! no cats in the house.”
things went well. eventually, it was late fall. getting cold.
“ok. but, he must stay in the breezeway.” it was enclosed, washer-dryer there. it did not freeze.

i told another neighbor about it.
he laughed, “by winter, that cat will be sleeping in your bed!” .. “no!” no way.

well. little by little, the cat fully made his way into our home. i always thought he must have sensed he must be on his best behavior, he “respected” my rules and was careful not to offend.
he was so good with the children. and, an “ace” mouser!

we must have had him for 15 years? .. many years.

he did enjoy sleeping at the foot of our bed. :P

Answer: it was on sale and cheaper than all the other meats, including chicken which was 250% more in price.

OJ, I'm glad you didn't skin the cat. Our neighbor is an old man whose 3 cats keep him going mentally and physically far better than a nursing home. One of his cats would come to the barn and use the door jamb as a scratching post so I nailed up aluminum flashing. It stopped the problem.

We had a blessed Holy Week and now we continue to celebrate Easter for 8 more days. There's plenty to do while the weather is nice so will stop here.

Probably heard this one before but what is a 'Jewish dilemma ?' -------------------- 'Free ham'. :)

We had ham and turkey and too much of everything. Today I'm on a fast. Liquids only.

And now for a rabbit trail  - actually I have found that fasting (liquids only) once a week seems to be good for my system. Might not work for everyone but it seems to work for me. No colds or flu this winter. And it also is a good test in resisting bodily cravings. I'm not doing it for spiritual reasons but perhaps I should as Jesus did say 'when you fast'. Might this be an area of disobedience ? Hmmm, are we following Jesus when we don't fast ? Might be worth considering at these times of year after we 'pig lamb out'.

Sunny and cool. We were going to help transplant seedlings but will wait another day. We're off to town for groceries this afternoon; the local stores re-stock on Thursday mornings and the sale ads come out on Wednesdays so we have our list. My wife informs me that we'll stock up on detergent and toilet paper so it's nothing glamorous or exciting.

In a couple of weeks the hatcheries will restock the lakes and streams. I'll be glad to go fishing again because I'm missing my fresh fish meals.
