The faith and devotion some people show towards Trump makes this apropos for them.
Mankind’s history is littered with leaders behaving, and being treated, as if they were divine. Americans used to consider themselves above such goofiness, looking down our noses at the nations who did this. This is merely breaking new ground for us, not earth breathing in the longer span.

Maybe if you looked at the context, your observation may not have appeared so irrelevant . That Fresco was painted in 1865 or so, many years after his death. So Washington had absoulutely nothing to do with this, unfortunately the current president DID have everything to do with this blasphemous image.JohnH wrote: ↑Mon Apr 13, 2026 11:36 am Here's a similar piece of art, depicting George Washington as a divine sort of lawgiver, ascended to heaven:
If someone is bothered by such a depiction of Donald J. Trump, then for consistency, I expect someone to also take issue with this depiction of George Washington. In the central group of the fresco, Brumidi depicted George Washington rising to the heavens in glory, flanked by female figures representing Liberty and Victory/Fame. A rainbow arches at his feet, and thirteen maidens symbolizing the original states flank the three central figures. (The word "apotheosis" in the title means literally the raising of a person to the rank of a god, or the glorification of a person as an ideal; George Washington was honored as a national icon in the nineteenth century.)

So it’s okay to literally depict Washington as a god in a fresco called “Apotheosis”, meaning “becoming a god”, and that’s better than a depiction of Trump as some Pentecostal preacher handing out Bibles, healing people, and being prayed over by MLK Jr?Judas Maccabeus wrote: ↑Mon Apr 13, 2026 12:01 pmMaybe if you looked at the context, your observation may not have appeared so irrelevant . as I said, Washington was not involved in self-deification. I don't like it, but it is a small thing compared to posting self-deifying images of YOURSELF.JohnH wrote: ↑Mon Apr 13, 2026 12:05 pmSo it’s okay to literally depict Washington as a god in a fresco called “Apotheosis”, meaning “becoming a god”, and that’s better than a depiction of Trump as some Pentecostal preacher handing out Bibles, healing people, and being prayed over by MLK Jr?Judas Maccabeus wrote: ↑Mon Apr 13, 2026 12:01 pmMaybe if you looked at the context, your observation may not have appeared so irrelevant . Whataboutism does not work in this cast. That depection of Trump is blasphemous and there is no way around. Clearly sick.

Why is it wrong to depict him as some Pentecostal preacher type of spiritual leader? That’s what the artist says he is doing.Judas Maccabeus wrote: ↑Mon Apr 13, 2026 12:08 pmas I said, Washington was not involved in self-deification. I mean, I don’t agree Presidents are spiritual leaders, but most of America feels differently.

No. That is a representation of our Lord. Pentecostal preachers don’t dress like this, and don’t have American flags behind them.JohnH wrote: ↑Mon Apr 13, 2026 12:10 pmWhy is it wrong to depict him as some Pentecostal preacher type of spiritual leader? Wife: The clothing you are mostly right on (there was a man who always walked around with a giant cross in the town I grew up in), the flags on the other hand, I’ve definitely seen behind preachers and not JesusJudas Maccabeus wrote: ↑Mon Apr 13, 2026 12:18 pmNo. That is a representation of our Lord. If that’s what the ‘artist’ says he intended, there is the very slightest possibility that was the idea meant to be conveyed when it was reposted. I don’t see why the artist would choose that specific style attire though. I mean, there’s some art with Moses dressed like that, but the laying hands on the sick man and the admiring way the people are looking at him will make the vast majority of people think Jesus, and not Moses, and I’m glad it got taken down.

In my religion, we don’t have artistic depictions of our Lord at all. If you do, I’m sorry you’re offended.Judas Maccabeus wrote: ↑Mon Apr 13, 2026 12:18 pmNo. That is a representation of our Lord. The artist is churning out AI slop with quite little thought or meaning; for example, who is the person being healed? It’s unclear.Soloist wrote: ↑Mon Apr 13, 2026 12:53 pmWife: The clothing you are mostly right on (there was a man who always walked around with a giant cross in the town I grew up in), the flags on the other hand, I’ve definitely seen behind preachers and not JesusJudas Maccabeus wrote: ↑Mon Apr 13, 2026 12:18 pmNo. That is a representation of our Lord. If you think “Jesus” when you see this I question how thoroughly Anabaptist someone is. We don’t worry about artistic depictions,
Although Rod and staff always shows him without a mustache.
