For those who may not know, this 'No Politics' feature only is filtered out if you are logged in with this as your log in restriction. I have automatic log in but if I cared to know the activity going on in this Politics forums I still can view it by logging out and just using the read only restriction. My wife is a 'read only' forum user and prefers this as her default for viewing posts whenever she brings up MennoNet.

Re: New MennoNet Filter
Robert,
i’m wondering about the numbers of members who choose this option?
is there a way to count? or could the number be updated now+then?
i’m tempted.
but it’s not something i want to do.
the “foe” (ignore) option is like that. it only works when you’re logged on.
i like to read without logging on, so, the (ignore) option is not very effective for me.
this leaves the forum with an outward appearance of being dominated by politics.
which i suppose is a turn off to many potential new members.
most new members, including me, found this forum because of interest in conservative Anabaptists/CMs, and Christian faith. there hasn’t been very much of that recently.
(well, new members sign up, share interests, then often don’t post.)
new members used to be invited to share about themselves right away, this often led to comments and questions, i.e., forum involvement.
i think it’s good to try new things now+then.

i was pretty sure it would work this way.Sudsy wrote:For those who may not know, this 'No Politics' feature only is filtered out if you are logged in with this as your log in restriction. Go to your user control panel, click Usergroups, then click on the No Politics link. It will list all in there.

Heartbreaking (for me) to witness on this forum.![]()
i’d hoped Robert would experiment with putting the forum’s politics category in a separate space.
it might be an interesting experiment. it might flop. i have a couple of ideas about what might result, but i’m never sure of things until they’re played out.
it makes me sad that this forum’s dominant outward appearance reflects closet partisans.

Not that i am one for emphasizing outward appearances! That’s a deep ditch, of itself.
For instance, the CAM threads, painful as they were/are, belonged on open forum.
But, CMs have complained about the evident dominance of forum politics for as long as i recall. Some wanted it altogether banned. Some have spoken “very plainly” about it, some have left over it.
i’m not “there,” because my central interest in this forum is to learn about CM and CA thinking.
Frankly, over years, most members arrive interested in the same thing. i am interested in hard-to-find CM povs on politics. (see, the rest is “everywhere,” no need to come here to find it.)
By its inherent nature, CM views are the most difficult to be found.
Liberal voices have no restraint, thus the apparent dominance. This is really coming out post-2020 general election. Lots of denials and justification. “Closets with glass doors” comes to mind.
If there’s one thing Jesus loves, it’s denials and justifications.![]()
i guess, ‘cause i do post often in politics,![]()

i feel it’s fair for me, an offender, to suggest these discussions “be sent away” to another room,
on a forum that was hoped to be more than “vaguely” Mennonite (Neto’s word).
i sincerely like and appreciate the change Robert made.![]()
i have this other question that no one has responded to. there may be some obvious reason not to try that escapes me.
i’m not for silencing political discussions.
do they deserve to be showcased (by default of numbers)?
