I just wanted one thread on MN that didn't involve the election.mike wrote:Why are we talking about pond scum in my thread about fake Amish?

I'm not sure what you're reading into that.. or what could be offensive about it. Here's a longer way of saying the same thing.temporal1 wrote:i hope you have the decency to regret this, and understand, with apologies, you may ask admin/mods to remove it.Remember the world wide witness of the Amish after Nickel Mines?
The Amish in my community which includes Nickel Mines, were lauded world wide for their Christlike forgiveness of the perpetrator and their care for his family. That was a great witness to Christ and His Kingdom.
Again, not sure what you're seeing or reading or what lenses you're reading through to have a problem with that...

Temp, I confess to being a bit confused as well. What in this statement do you feel merits an apology, or even a removal? Maybe we're missing something?temporal1 wrote:i hope you have the decency to regret this, and understand, with apologies, you may ask admin/mods to remove it.Remember the world wide witness of the Amish after Nickel Mines?

i cannot compare the tangible and spiritual anguish experienced in Nickel Mines with .. little else, certainly not political upmanship. does that help?Heirbyadoption wrote:Temp, I confess to being a bit confused as well. Perhaps this will be an inspiration for people who have hitched their cart to left-wing political movements to rethink their positions; in any case, I am not discouraged because my track record persuading people to adopt the Christian life and the Christian position of abstaining from involvement in worldly politics has been quite successful. You could say that I do voter drives, but in reverse.Jazman wrote:To bring it back a little... this just breaks my heart to see this... my heritage being wooed by conmen/women, grifters, heretics like Lance Wallnau and Paula White (see posting here: Amish for Trump) I hope Ernie's assessment that this is just a few rogues and fake Amish is true, but still this saddens me. Remember the world wide witness of the Amish after Nickel Mines? Well that'll all be forgotten or maybe is already, if this kind of public capitulation to worldly machinations becomes their new "witness"... hitching ones cart to people like Wallnau and White and their master(s) can't end well, imo.
Now I just wish the local board of elections would respect my wishes when I tell them to cancel my registration.

I'm still mystified... what I wrote, nor my intentions remotely do this, "compare... Nickel Mines with...political upmanship"...temporal1 wrote:i cannot compare the tangible and spiritual anguish experienced in Nickel Mines with .. little else, certainly not political upmanship. does that help?Heirbyadoption wrote:Temp, I confess to being a bit confused as well. Here's a third time, in different wording again.
1. Post Nickel Mines, the Amish community (my county!) spoke and lived out a powerful witness to the world to the power of Jesus Christ and forgiveness and grace (a whole book was written about it Amish Grace - Donald Kraybill et al!)
2. That powerful witness, imo will be undermined or overshadowed, if the Amish, in general, are perceived to have hitched their wagon to trumpism...
That's all I'm saying; nothing more, nothing less. This'll be the last time I try to make it clear. If you read something else into that, then I give up. I know one thing for sure, I live a lot closer to that tragedy than you do. I have immediate family who live Next Door to victims of that tragedy and this or anything I wrote previously was meant to not impugn those family's continuing Christ-like witness. In fact, it's FOR them that I don't want to see their community get mixed up in trumpism.

I'm still a little mystified... but I think I have an inkling at what's bothering you... I think about it some more and maybe respond.Jazman wrote:temporal1 wrote:i cannot compare the tangible and spiritual anguish experienced in Nickel Mines with .. little else, certainly not political upmanship. does that help?Heirbyadoption wrote: Temp, I confess to being a bit confused as well. I wonder if the people bleating about how terrible it is a few rowdy Amish youth waved some Trump flags would be as condemning if the Amish were supporting Biden.
Sorry, but this just has a partisan stench to it.

Of course it would be just as bad. And it would probably be even weirder.Josh wrote:I wonder if the people bleating about how terrible it is a few rowdy Amish youth waved some Trump flags would be as condemning if the Amish were supporting Biden.
