Major attack on Israel by Hamas

Things that are not part of politics happening presently and how we approach or address it as Anabaptists.

In November 1947, the UN General Assembly passed a resolution partitioning Palestine into two states, one Jewish and one Arab, with Jerusalem under a UN administration.
Israel and Palestine were chartered in the same way. Israel won the wars, taking over a lot of Palestine. And this is what Palestinians face:
Who started the war?
Both.

The collapse of the Ottoman Empire left a vacuum in that part of the world which both the Jews and Arabs tried to fill. Conflict between the two started immediately and both sides were culpable in starting the conflict. Depending on the specific incident one can certainly blame one side more than the other. But both sides engaged in violent conflict.

I think that's accurate if we are looking at the start of the conflict. And both sides have engaged in terrorism, too, by any reasonable standard.

Valerie, nobody here is defending Hamas or wants to see them "win". There is, however, a third position that means we don't think Hamas being evil somehow gives the current Israeli government a blank check to also be evil.
Jews are not Anabaptists. They are not Non-resistant. Their history from God giving them directions regarding their land and also God directing them to war including gvtimes He told them to kill every man woman & child is in their understanding of God. So I am suggesting getting this man's perspective on the situation. He knows better than anyone here.

Are you suggesting that the Jews have no need to obey Jesus' command to "resist not evil" or to "turn the other cheek"?

As you know, most New Covenant Christians do not apply that passage the same as Anabaptists. MOST denominations believe Jesus was referring to "petsonal" enemies and do not see that as a mandate for a country to not engage in war if necessary. For example the video of the Son of Hamas leader who was involved in Hamas himself, became a Christian. A Jesus follower. Yet he believes and is presently stating Israel was left with no choice but war. So you see he interprets that passage differently than Anabaptists.

Maybe the OT references to "love your neighbor and hate your enemy" also applied only to "petsonal" enemies....

It is convenient when the teachings and example of Jesus only apply when I want them to.

When Jesus was asked, “Who is my neighbour?” his answer included Samaritans. Considering the Palestinians are literally neighbours to Israelis, perhaps that parable he told the Israelites 2,000 years ago still applies today.

Desperate to kill Jews it seems. So much so that they turned billions in aid (including from Israel) into implements of war and massacre.
That plays a part but it's not the only factor. If the Israelis were Chinese I suspect they would still feel desperate.
What do you think the other factor(s) of their desperation is(are)?
Gaza is a tough place, I might feel desperate if I were born there.
