A kindergarten teacher who wanted to teach broadly about human sexuality when the state has determined that this subject is reserved for higher grades. Does this teacher have a First Amendment "freedom of speech" right to do so in their classroom over the objections of the school and parents?HondurasKeiser wrote: ↑Wed Mar 16, 2022 12:23 pmCould you give me an example of potential liberal-educator excess?Ken wrote: ↑Wed Mar 16, 2022 12:09 pmI'm not interested in arguing human sexuality here. My point is that this is an issue of public policy and something that needs to be decided at a higher level than the individual classroom teacher. That is why we have school boards, legislatures, and state departments of education.Robert wrote: ↑Wed Mar 16, 2022 10:57 am
I see no reason for LGB to be addressed at school for CHILDREN. Most children should not be engaging in sexual activity. I could care less what they are attracted to, they should not be encouraged to engage in any sexual activity at a young age. I see this as grooming and child abuse.
T is a child deciding they are a different gender then their biology. They are free to do so, but how can they force everyone else to play along when this may be from abuse, or mental dysfunction also? Should we support the results of abuse and validate the abuse that caused the child to desire to be someone they are not?
We do not let children drive, buy alcohol, cigarettes and many other things, but we will let them make life changing modifications to their bodies because they "feel" different then force a teacher to accept it when they see it differently?
It is not the job or role of teachers to second-guess public policy in EITHER direction on this issue. I would equally object to teachers who stray in a more liberal direction than public policy on this subject than I would to teachers who stray in a more conservative direction. If you open the door for conservative teachers to second-guess public policy and curriculum standards on this or any other topic, then you equally open the door for liberal teachers to do the same thing.
Would you approve of this? And would it make a difference if they held a religious belief that they thought compelled them to do so? There are indeed some cultures that introduce human sexuality at a much earlier age than we do.
