I think people should slow down. I’ve seen a lot of speeding in these mountains by move-ins from the flatter parts of the states. A few weeks back there were three accidents in one hour on the same 2 mile stretch of curves during a light rain. Every driver had just moved here and they all were going too fast on 30 mph curves. Maybe we should require driver training and a special license to drive mountain roads. Natural selection is one approach but when it involves hurting and killing others a line has to be drawn.
What does this have to do with kids walking in urban areas?
It's hard enough to keep regular threads on topic.
Bunny trails is the place to go off topic. No need to try to police this thread.
Well children walking in urban areas don't see rabbits, they tend to... Squirrel!!

Maybe if they are engrossed in their phones, but not because the rabbits are absent or invisible.
AI wrote:Rabbits thrive in urban and suburban areas because cities offer abundant food (grass, garden plants) and safe habitats (shrubs, parks, brush piles) with fewer predators like coyotes, leading to high, stable populations. They adapt by building smaller, simpler burrows and maintain overlapping home ranges, utilizing "edges" between lawns and natural cover for survival, though they still face threats from domestic pets and raptors.

I’ve been instructing my cats to keep the rabbit population down but they seem to have developed a taste for dog food instead.

And even medical professionals sometimes don’t get it right.
Particularly when parents “shop around” to dozens of doctors until they finally find one who will give them the diagnosis they want.
In that case, they are likely receiving advice from an outlier.
“Doctor shopping” and “expert shopping” have a lot of different reasons behind them. Sometimes when there’s a dr who isn’t listening or helping much then seeking a second opinion is logical. There’s one Dr here who’s a little too prescription happy. We switched to a doctor of osteopathic medicine who prefers to find the cause of a problem instead of just treating the symptoms with pills. He really helped my wife who as it turned out had allergies causing her GI pains.

I am not taking about a second opinion, or even a third. I am taking about a fifth or more.
Well now it took us 4 tries to find a dr that wasn’t prescription happy. We eventually had to drive close to 50 miles to find this osteopathic medicine dr. He ran allergy tests to see if she was allergic to foods and it happened she was so all she had to do was stop eating them and her GI pains disappeared. He couldn’t get rid of her biggest pain though… me.

I'd like to learn more, since my allergist told me it's not medically possible to test for food allergies. Could you share some more information about this?
JohnL wrote: ↑Tue Dec 23, 2025 10:56 amMaybe it’s just a shortage of drs or maybe it’s the shortage of doctors who are trained to be digging deeper like the DOs (Doctors of Osteopathic medicine).
In my area, DOs are quite common, practice at all the major hospital networks, and seem to practice medicine the same way that MDs do. My family's doctor is a DO.

I hope she's allergic to some foods but not all.

I wish she wasn’t allergic to any because she suffered bad for quite a few years. There are a whole bunch of foods she can’t touch any more. Asparagus, bananas, peanuts, soy, milk products and a bunch of others. She’s had to be careful about her casserole recipes too. She’ll put cheese on one part but not on the whole thing so she can still eat with us.

She can still eat smoked meats, eggs, taters, yams, some leaf greens, and cabbages. Not much else and if there’s canned soup in a recipe forget it.

This DO did a blood draw of 4 vials. There’s some kind of test that’s used to identify allergy markers to food and the other usual suspects. When the results came back my wife quit eating anything that showed up in the tests and her painful aggravations disappeared. She wasn’t allergic to anything else except a certain kind of grass that doesn’t grow here. That’s pretty much proof for us the blood test is a good way to find food allergies.
