POTUS says he thinks Iran war will end immediately after mid-terms. Imagine being the enemy and realizing that you have at least two months to do a lot of damage and maybe become better positioned to keep extending the war.
I’ve seen him say things like this multiple times now, and US didn’t follow the agreement made and claimed Iran didn’t. Iran didn’t follow the agreement made and claimed the US didn’t.
Truth is, both of them followed it from what they thought it was… it was an excellent deal for Iran but there was too much ambiguity in the agreement, leaving room for a truck to be drove through. Now he’s basically saying he won’t accept anything less than a total capitulation. Unless he’s willing to compromise and give them something they want too, the war conflict won’t end until they (the leaders) are overthrown and the new leaders are willing to be puppets.
It’s in China and Russia’s interest that this conflict is dragged out as long as possible.

Just like the Ukraine war ended immediately after he was elected, before he took office.
Apparently this one with Iran will end either the day after the midterms or maybe at the end of the POTUS term... It's sounding like end of days/ Christ's return predictions... very specific dates, but also very easily reset...and for the faithful few, doesn't seem to hurt their cult leader's credibility in the least...

I see reporting that Iran is rebuilding the nuclear weapons sites, including the underground sites.
well... yeah... they obviously don't feel safe not having nukes. You can only get attacked during negotiations once before future negotiations are looked upon as bad faith, misdirection, delaying action... so accordingly you respond.

War is so dumb.
Yeah, I've been watching a week-by-week WWII docuseries... and yeah, so much stupid loss of life on all sides, but especially on the authoritarian sides (they wouldn't listen to dissent or critique, they wouldn't take intelligence seriously that didn't conform to their preconceived notions or 'gut', etc etc.) It was appalling.

I think you are right about the historical trend of authoritarian leaning government slowly rejecting dissent and transitioning out of reality.

...transitioning out of reality.
I like your turn of phrase! but sadly true... and does it seem then that 1 of the only ways to transition back, is through death/destruction/great pain?

Related but in some ways only tangentially...(The Rest is History talking about the Battle of Britian) starting point is a discussion of what happens when authoritarian/totalitarian governments reject dissent and reality... they use the term "ideological arrogance", which I think is really apropos to some situations today, including the 'wars' we (USA) are currently fighting... Lies and believing or pushing unreality (like a regime's or a regime's movement's preferred media do) seem to go hand in hand with "ideological arrogance"... it always leads to death/destruction.
