I'm not panicked, but there are things in the response I find very concerning. A large concern is stockpiling of resources. From a macro level, like Taiwan not exporting masks, to a micro level, like floors and staff in our hospital system hoarding protective equipment and testing supplies, reactions based on fear often become self-fulfilling prophecies.
This tends to affect the ability to test, treat, and properly protect staff and the public from an infection spreading.
i recall people (in the U.S.) hoarding sugar and toilet paper, economic scares.

we were young in those days, we had no way to hoard anything, we did not go without (so to speak).

my husband’s 90+ year old grandmother on a farm, had her pantry filled with 5# bags of sugar and TP. the quantity seemed outrageous to us. she was born in 1886, had experienced The Great Depression.
my young family is on the west coast. from what Robert has posted, i expect they will get the virus and survive. i probably won’t get it as soon, but, may not survive. i’m thinking about doing more to get my affairs in order. it’s been on my mind, i just need to act. my attorney is my age. hmm.
my father used to say, when you get older, get a younger attorney. older ones retire, and .. other things.
cancelling junk mail magazines is a good idea. i’ve cancelled many, more to go.
in my experience, after a person dies, junk mail can continue FOR YEARS. and years.
it’s painful, and a nuisance for survivors.
