What do you do with WWII era medals, flags, etc.?

My father had a pistol left over from his military service days. I don't know if it was from his WW2 or Korean War enlistment. When my parents died, and we were sorting out their belongings, my brother and I agreed to have his pistol destroyed; otherwise, it might be used to hurt someone someday.

I applaud you for your conviction in the matter. I would have done the opposite, though.
