Would a separate sub forum for conservatives be useful or not?

I have a dozen things I could say, but I will let others weigh in.

When a group starts being exclusive, it never ends well.

I think the fellowship movement would beg to differ.

I would just simply ask that you would honor the original request and take the debate elsewhere.

I didn't vote. I don't care one way or the other if someone wants to try a separate sub-forum, but I have no reason to think it will be any more effective than the existing "No Politics" sub-forum. At least it seems to me there is plenty of political discussion and political point-proving going on in the "No Politics" side of things.

There are a total of 10 people in the no politics group. Out of those 1 is no longer with us, 1 made a single post 2 years ago, 2 hasn't been posting since 2021 and 2019 leaving a total of 6 people including yourself. Of those 6 people how many of them are contributing to the political posts? The no politics was never a separate forum but rather an attempt to not read political stuff particularly for me the vitriol around the elections. Sure it would be nice if the politics didn't creep into everything but you can't reasonably expect the moderators to actively read everything to move it if it has politics in it. The flip side is if there was a sub-forum then the discussions would not have quite so much accusing of some vile belief either direction.

Assuming there was a sub-forum made for the 4 people who so far wanted it, I suspect no harm would come from it. I also suspect that some of the people who voted against it would likely still be part of it if it was made.

The proposal is simply for a sub-forum for those who identify as being a conservative Mennonite, plain Anabaptist, etc.

I’m not sure how that’s a bad thing. For those who want to interact with non-conservatives, the rest of the forum remains available.

Who gets to be supreme manager of the universe and decide who is allowed in this sub-forum?

Anyone who wants to identify as conservative or plain Mennonite/Anabaptist/Brethren is welcome to be a part of it, or at least that’s how it was done on MennoDiscuss.

If someone doesn’t want to be conservative/plain then it’s not the place for them. MD had a progressive Anabaptist forum for those who identified that way.

Good point.

The reason for the sub forums was a space that that group would not have to explain or justify constantly. It gave an area to discuss some things that were directly related to that group.

The progressive group did not have to justify divorce and remarriage constantly and we were able to discuss MCUSA issues without constantly feel like we were looked down on.

We were not that active in it, but it did give us a little room as the schism in MCUSA was going strong. I doubt I would be very active in it currently. I am not that active here now.

I would much rather see a "seekers/transplant" sub-forum. A place where such people can have their questions answered in a safe environment away from the rest of the discussions that tend to get heated. We have a lot of new people who don't post and I often wonder if we come off as border-line hostile.
