Amish Covid | Full Measure

Things that are not part of politics happening presently and how we approach or address it as Anabaptists.

I'm always amazed at how people can take a wisdom issue, and turn it into an ethical issue. Every time someone turns a wisdom issue into an ethical issue, Christians end up dividing/parting ways/schismatizing, while the world watches on. Someone pictures a foster child from a broken home observing a dysfunctional family, only to realize that the dysfunctional family wants to take him into their home. That is the last thing he wants is to go to yet another dysfunctional home.

Separating wisdom from ethical is something I saw in the fundamentalist world - it's a rampant place for compromise and dysfunctional homes.

And the greeting was given to show love one to another.

In the last days the love of many will grow cold.
Also Jesus did not say do not practice a day of rest and elsewhere we are instructed to not neglect the gathering of the brethren which it is impossible to greet with a kiss or have any close fellowship on a screen.

So Ernie, explain how a separation of wisdom from ethics actually works. It would seem like the two are intertwined.

One could argue its unethical in regard to many restrictions or the vaccine and the opposite side, one could argue its wisdom in the same on both sides. It just seems to me that they are very connected.

The wisdom of man is foolishness to God and true wisdom is the fear of the Lord.

One thing that comes to mind is that disease, and dying of diseases, was far more common in Bible times. People sought Jesus to get healing from these diseases.

Nowadays we are accustomed to almost never dying of such diseases.

God uses pain for His purpose of drawing us closer to Him. He understands human nature perfectly!
i often think of Gomer. her strong will to sin.
God’s confident (not angry) response to her - not in vengeance! in love, to draw her near to Him. He knew what He had to do to reach her, not what He wanted to do.

His method was successful. Gomer learned to love Him, above all others and all else. Authentic joy.
only then did God restore Gomer to Hosea. Hosea did not heal Gomer. He was patient and faithful - to God.
God healed Gomer and restored their marriage.

We HATE pain.
Whether our own or our loved ones, or others we do not know.
There is a serious conundrum here. We HATE pain. But comfort, ease, self-indulgence, even good health, bring remarkable temptation to forget to worship 1 God. The temptation to worship self and all manner false gods steps right in.

Is there any example where this does not apply? It’s a matter for serious prayer.

Presently, i believe God is using many means to reach us.
Incompetent, corrupt government, the noisy mind-numbing internet, disease, natural and man made disasters, all of carnal earthly life is a challenge to to choose everlasting Life. .. not self, not pride.

2 Peter 3:9

8Beloved, do not let this one thing escape your notice: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.

9The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise as some understand slowness, but is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish but everyone to come to repentance.

10But the Day of the Lord will come like a thief.
The heavens will disappear with a roar, the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and its works will be laid bare.…

Jesus’ exquisite invitation: “Follow me” ..

As usual, many Covid debaters continue to attack the extreme position/outcome of their own, while avoiding any discussion about alternatives that could be considered in between those two extremes. I will keep mentioning this until Covid is no longer being discussed or until the debaters are willing to have a discussion about alternatives between the extremes.

I've said this before, but it seems to have been forgotten. So I will say it again for the record.
I believe it is possible for Christians to continue assembling with other believers in-person, and even practice the holy kiss, while mitigating the spread of Covid.

I didn't see anything in the OP video that suggested Amish were less affected. It was mentioned that they are less likely to go to the hospital for treatment. I thought the point of the OP video is that the Amish decided to expose themselves to Covid right away, rather than postpone the exposure for a long time like many "English".

I thought I picked up a comment to that effect. That some in the community claimed they had less Covid than other communities. But I only watched it once. The authors of the video weren’t making that claim. They were reporting that others were making the claim.

Yes, and, from the start, grand mitigation efforts were meant only to “level out” outbreaks, so as to prevent hospitals from being overwhelmed, as was witnessed early in NYC and Italy.

The OP Amish decided to respond more like Sweden, i’ve read positives+negatives about the early Swedish response, but nothing recent.

i agree with you, prevailing attitudes are to respond with black+white “absolutes.” when precious little in temporal life is absolute.
it’s really handy for dividing people into stark+opposing political groups.
Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is absurd.
