Wisconsin:
“Door, Kewaunee county businesses accept donated deer during hunting season”
https://www.greenbaypressgazette.com/st ... 974248002/
STURGEON BAY -
Venison, donated by hunters, has made an impact on food pantries across the state for 20 years.

According to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, which operates the Deer Donation Program, 92,000 deer have been donated since 2000, which means more than 3.7 million pounds of venison was sent to Wisconsin food pantries.

"Whether it is harvesting an extra deer or donating the only deer they shoot, Wisconsin hunters have historically shown their willingness to help others by donating deer to the Deer Donation Program," DNR Wildlife Damage Program Assistant Liz Tanner said, in a recent department article. "As deer hunters begin preparations for this hunting season, we are encouraging them to again consider the Deer Donation Program."

To celebrate 20 years, hunters will receive a free hat when they donate a deer in 2019.

Legally harvested deer can be donated in Door and Kewaunee counties at the following locations:

Haberlie's Deer Processing, 4259 Haberlie Road, Sturgeon Bay. 920-743-5736
Marchants Foods Inc., 1367 Door County DK, Brussels. 920-825-1244.
They's Venison Processing, E1831 River Road, Casco. 920-609-0309.

Deer will be accepted through Feb. 1, 2020. Hunters are encourages to call the location ahead of time, to ensure they have space to accept the deer. Deer should be field dressed before they are dropped off, and handled as though they were intended for the hunter's own table.

For those hunting beyond Northeast Wisconsin, per department request, all adult deer harvested in Adams, Crawford, Grant, Green, Jefferson, Juneau, Kenosha, Lafayette, Portage, Racine, Vernon and Waukesha counties  must be tested for chronic wasting disease.
This is also required for both adult deer and fawns harvested from Columbia, Dane, Iowa, Richland, Rock, Sauk and Walworth counties.

For more information on how to participate, or to make a donation to the program, visit dnr.wi.gov/topic/hunt/donation.html.

If a person has a heartening story of their own, is it ok to share it?

It might help that my family background is logging and sawmilling for over the past 100 years, but I love this story - Thank you for sharing and most of all thank God!

I do not know how to attach the picture sent the other day from Mike's mother of my family with Mike...?

My dad met Mike really far up a logging road on his bicycle when it was getting cold and dark. Mike was lost and scared, but my dad convinced him to get in the logging truck and my dad took him home.
From then on Mike frequently waited by the road for my dad to pick him up to go for rides, Mike also came over to our house lots when I was a child and so I grew up getting to know Mike.
My dad made a video for him to take with him when Mike moved to PEI. That all started about 25 years ago.
A couple years back when my parents came to visit us in Nova Scotia they made a point of taking a day to go visit Mike. Apparently Mike was waiting on the porch and was yelling my dad's name in excitement to see him.

A couple years ago this article was written on Mike:
P.E.I. Special Olympian honoured by Maritime Sports Hall of Fame
Michael Morris becomes first-ever Special Olympian inducted to Maritime Sports Hall of Fame
