I have to admit that if people were getting stabbed inside their cars here, I would probably think twice about getting behind the wheel, too - or at least I'd be more diligent to lock my doors.

I'm not sure why you are fixated on stabbings in this thread. You aren't likely to get bitten by a shark while driving your car either. But that doesn't mean the highways are risk free.
Most homicides in this country are committed by guns and cars. People are definitely shot in their cars. And thousands die each year as a result of vehicular homicide. But such killings rarely make the national news (unlike a stabbing on the metro) because they are so common and mundane. And probably because politicians aren't interested in demagoguing vehicular homicide.

I do wonder sometimes.

I have entered parking garages without using a car or riding in one, during multi-modal trips involving only public transportation. It is sometimes the most efficient route between an airport terminal and a light rail or people mover station or bus stop. Without taxiing my memory I can recall doing so at SEA, LAX, and SFO.

No comment on my actual point? Which was that traveling by car is more dangerous than transit? Notwithstanding the rare sensational incident?

No; I don't particularly disagree with that. But maybe if you would stick to your actual point without making false assertions, I wouldn't have to correct those claims.

Re: Auto Accident Fatalities
Everyone here speaks in generalities. Which is clearly what I was doing with respect to parking garages. If you want to nit-pick my language then fine. I stand corrected. But I would suggest that the fact that the only times you can recall passing through parking garages without using cars is the few times when you took shortcuts through them in airports to reach transit stops pretty much underscores my point. And that crime associated with parking garages is almost certainly associated with car use and not the rare pedestrian or transit user cutting through them on a shortcut.ohio jones wrote: ↑Sun Sep 21, 2025 2:20 pmNo; I don't particularly disagree with that. I used to walk through a parking lot every single day as part of my commute on public transportation.

Re: Auto Accident Fatalities
If you still want to argue the point, my comment was about parking garages not parking lots.
Obviously you can't actually enter most suburban buildings and offices without passing through a parking lot. But most people who do so are arriving by car not transit.
I am merely suggesting that parking lots and parking garages are part of our system of car transportation just like subway platforms and bus stops are part of our transit systems. And that the risk of traveling via either mode of transportation should consider the entire trip door-to-door and not simply the portion of the trip in which you are inside a moving vehicle. And when you do so, cars look to be the more dangerous choice, not transit.
