The White House / President Trump Participates in a Multilateral Meeting with European Leaders / -29min

Personally, i would prefer Trump not meet with Z in person in public again, esp not without translators.
i guess this is ok, in a group setting, possibly unavoidable. (They don’t ask me.)

mike wrote: ↑Mon Aug 18, 2025 12:06 pm By stating that they want USA plus Europe security guarantees, aren’t they asking for the USA to be willing to enter an armed conflict? I mean, those kinds of guarantees exist already with NATO, but I assume they want the US to also enter some sort of security agreement with Ukraine. Maybe I am reading too much into that point, but I’m pretty sure that the EU wants the US to provide more security guarantees than what they are currently already in with NATO.
i agree. i pray for Trump to have wisdom here.

my view of Z has changed in the last year.
i now see him as a brother to Putin, understanding that brothers can be ruthless and deadly.

i can now imagine, IF Z gets all he “wants” (military and economic carte blanche) he could become worse than Putin.
i see that in him now. unsettling as it is.

i also wonder ..
how is it all this hinges on the U.S. providing guarantees - beyond what U.S. citizens have??!!

is the U.S. the one all-knowing God? i think not.

life is uncertain. there are no guarantees. Z is preposterous. i don’t trust him. at all. no more.

God’s will be done.

Anyone old enough to have entered into an agreement or contract with misgivings about supposedly innocuous language,
being assured, “sign, this is nothing” .. only to have their worst fears follow .. will beware.

Old saying, “READ THE FINE PRINT”.
mike:

This walks directly into WWIII.
The EU got punked, then insisting on U.S. be with them. o.yeah, they’re really polite, and, underhanded.

There are no guarantees on earth. If so, hillary would have been president in 2016.

“We deceive ourselves.” Esp when in a nice polite group setting.

i’m sorry Trump didn’t get the minerals agreement he proposed in February. (i believe it was agreed, then Z backed out - i believe due to beguiling Left-West pressures and promises). The LAST thing the Left-West wants is Trump success, no matter how dear the price. Z is a Left-West construct, a front man. imho. with begging puppy dog eyes.

Trump’s proposal might have worked really well.
Get people/countries invested in gainful, constructive business, to PREVENT destruction.

Looks like we’ll never know wrt Ukraine/Russia.

If one were asking me, which they aren't, I don't like any 'guarantee's' either. Different sides goad each other into war and then there you are fighting there wars for them. It seems foolish to me to lock oneself into a security guarantee, that is, a promise to get violent. If they want that, then maybe they ought to be annexed.

Ernie wrote: ↑Fri Aug 15, 2025 9:38 pmYes, Russia might occupy Ukraine for a long while under this arrangement, but it is a known fact that Russian leaders reverse the decisions of former leaders, years down the road.
Too bad they don't have you for a military advisor. You seem amazingly confident about your understanding of what can be done militarily and how Russia would respond.
Most people in this thread have that in common. I'm surprised Putin, Trump, and Zelensky don't rely on MennoNet more than they seem to. Or maybe they just don't want people to know.
That might explain the hundreds of Russian bots that kept trying to create accounts.

Russia’s effective allies include most of the continent of Africa, including South Africa, Brazil, and India. These countries are chummy with Russia, buy weapons from them, and engage in large amounts of trade. Brazil’s current leader is a personal friend of Putin.

It’s going to be difficult for Western Europe, America/Canada, and a few Eastern European countries to try to sanction the entire rest of the world. Especially when they have been addicted to cheap goods from India and China.

That was kind of the premise of the original EU and its predecessors. Not to mention the United States.

i’m wary of puppy dog eyes begging for billions AND military guarantees. “nice work/grift if you can get it.”
when asked, Z actually said he wants “everything”. i appreciate his candor.
