Baptist vs. Anabaptist: What's the Difference (part 1)

The Bible is very easy to understand. But we Christians are a bunch of scheming swindlers. We pretend to be unable to understand it because we know very well that the minute we understand we are obliged to act accordingly.

Hey JohnL, I'm tagging you here because you're a baptist, and I wanted to hear if you have any thoughts on the video. The last portion of the video speaks to hermenutical lenses, which might address the "biblicism" topic you started in another thread.

I started on the video but didn't have time to finish it. It's longer than most of his content.

I think he did a fairly good job with this.Praxis+Theodicy wrote: ↑Wed Aug 13, 2025 9:00 am Another video by Joshua/Ready to Harvest. I am enjoying this channel more and more, and this video is one of my favorites. He will be releasing part 2 next week.

A wee little man can’t say, I’m sorry. A big man owns his mistakes and apologizes.
A wee little man trusts himself and his own discernment. A big man is humble enough to know that he needs the counsel and input of others.

Well I think he's comparing the huge mainline OSAS baptists to the anabaptists. He might want to make that clear because there's more than one kind of baptist like us free willers who don't fall into that kind of theology. If he doesn't make that clear then he's creating more confusion because baptists aren't all of one or two kinds of theology. We're about as varied as the anabaptists.Praxis+Theodicy wrote: ↑Wed Aug 13, 2025 9:00 am Another video by Joshua/Ready to Harvest. For example some of us free willers don't believe in OSAS because it's clear in the Bible you can lose your salvation.

Agreed. It's pretty hard to present "Christocentric Hermeneutic vs. Flat Bible" without strawmanning one side or the other. The quotes he presents seem to be doing just that, but he presents both sides to let them both speak. He spend a LOT of time on that point, adding in some necessary qualifications so his audience gets a "fair" representation of both sides.
I look forward to the video next week. He posted it with the topics he's covering. Looks like the video will be even longer:
00:00 Introduction
00:10 Head Covering for Women
03:58 Plain Clothing
07:38 Mode of Baptism
11:37 Close Communion
14:10 Church Polity
16:27 Visible/Invisible Church Distinction
21:36 Divorce and Remarriage (He touched upon this briefly in part 1 as an example for the hermeneutic)
22:41 Restrictions on Technology
23:41 Insurance & Mutual Aid
24:47 Schooling
28:39 Worship Style
29:50 Premillennialism & Dispensationalism
31:48 Foot Washing
34:10 Rurality
35:20 Intentional Community
