Israel strikes Iran

Things that are not part of politics happening presently and how we approach or address it as Anabaptists.

I've watched the Middle East news ever since the 6 day war in 1967.
What I do know is Iran has been threatening Israel for decades.
I do know that according to multiple nations, Iran has continued to enrich uranium for nuclear bombs.
I do know that a number of Arab nations have allied with Israel and stopped retaliatory missiles against Israel.
That's all I know for sure right now.
We're praying over the entire situation.
Was that part of your academics in college? What prompted your interest in following it?
The 6 day war struck an intuition deep inside my heart knowing what Genesis 21:9-13 related about Abraham, Sarah, and Hagar. Sarah was the mother of the line of Israel, and Hagar was the mother of the line that became Islam.

What on earth do those things have to do with each other?

My internet keeps cutting out due to the storms we're getting. Some of the towers go down. Anyway it cut out again before I could finish my post. I was going to add that in the light of the Middle East war escalating again, I think I'll spend some time studying the story of Abraham in Genesis to re-familiarize myself with it again. I haven't looked at it in awhile and I want to see if I spot new insights.

Before invading a country, it would be wise to know its population. I’m no war college professor but I’m starting to think I could be a congressional advisor.

It’s depressing that Iran basically has no choice.

Iran has had almost 50 years of choices since the Iranian revolution in 1979.

They have chosen to pinpoint both Israel and the US as their enemies and for nearly 50 years have organized their foreign policy around that principal through an endless series of proxy wars and sponsorship of terrorism. For example, every missile that the Houthis fire at US ships and Israel in the Red Sea comes with a "Made in Iran" label and their tacit approval.

That doesn't excuse anything that Israel is currently doing. But it takes two to tango and Iran is as complicit as anyone else for the state of hostility in the middle east today.

You know it’s not that simple. Someone who constantly gets bullied and strikes back is the bad guy? There’s a lot more going on here and they really have no reason to trust Americans.

I think it is that simple. The main reason why Iran has taken such an antagonistic stance towards Israel and the US (i.e. the “great satan) over the past 50 years is because they are an oppressive theocratic regime and such regimes always center on external enemies to deflect from their own domestic failings, or to justify their own repressive policies.

That doesn’t mean Iran needs to be an Israeli or US ally. Egypt isn’t an Israeli ally and unlike Iran, they are right next door. But they have managed to co-exist peacefully for the past 50 years. Iran could easily have chosen to do the same, rather than be a toxic destabilizing force in the region.

Part of Iran’s poor choice (and Syria’s) was to ally with the USSR, and later on continue that relationship with Russia. It was a poor choice in the 1960s and continues to be a poor choice today.

One reason America ended up allied with Israel in the 1960s is because every other country was already mixed up with the USSR.
