Having lived in Liberia, Africa, we quickly learned that you never know for sure what kind of meat you are eating in any given dish that includes meat, unless you ask. It might be day old road kill. It might be monkey. It might be mountain lion. It's whatever is available. That is the culture of Liberia. I'm guessing Haiti is the same.

When we first arrived in Liberia, there were very few dogs and cats around because most of them were eaten during the 15 year civil war that had ended 1 year before we arrived.

The main lesson from Springfield, OH, as it relates to the OP, is that most politicians nowadays will use whatever they can to get elected.
As this and other threads have detailed, lying is now something that is ok to use for political campaigning. And when they are called out on it, they change the narrative and keep doubling down on their rhetoric. So what if the folks who unwittingly get used as props for campaign spiels get dragged into something they wish they hadn't.

We have seen this happen over and over in the Trump/Vance campaign as well as the Harris/Walz/Biden campaign.

I buy that, but I think there's a difference between people in extreme poverty eating whatever meat they can locate and it being a part of the regular culture. If it truly is a part of the Haitian culture -- and not just eaten during times of necessity -- then it should be possible to find the name of a dish that uses cats as an ingredient.
