Even if it was, it wouldn't mean that Haitian immigrants were stealing cats and dogs to eat them in Springfield. That part is clearly an unsubstantiated lie on the part of Trump and Vance. And in Vance's case it is lies about his own constituents.Szdfan wrote: ↑Wed Sep 18, 2024 8:16 pmSure. Absolutely. Cats are eaten in China and yet I’ve never seen any evidence to substantiate the stereotype that Chinese restaurants in America are secretly feeding cats to their unsuspecting customers.Ken wrote: ↑Wed Sep 18, 2024 8:22 pmEven if it was, it wouldn't mean that Haitian immigrants were stealing cats and dogs to eat them in Springfield. Having lived in Liberia, Africa, we quickly learned that you never know for sure what kind of meat you are eating in any given dish that includes meat, unless you ask. It might be day old road kill. It might be monkey. It might be mountain lion. It's whatever is available. That is the culture of Liberia. I'm guessing Haiti is the same.Szdfan wrote: ↑Wed Sep 18, 2024 8:52 pmAbsolutely. Robert’s claim is that cat is part of Haitian culture. Food that is cultural have names. What’s the name of a dish that uses cat as an ingredient.
If you've been looking in the US it's no wonder you found nothing. I suggest you go to Haiti and search there if you want to find someone eating cats or dogs.
If everyone thinks they might be doing that, they have no unsuspecting customers.
Ken, I do get very tired of your know it all attitude. Tone it down or leave.
A Chinese Cary out in our area was closed for having roadkill in their walk-in. Not necessarily serving it, just having it.Szdfan wrote: ↑Wed Sep 18, 2024 8:52 pmAbsolutely. I buy that, but I think there's a difference between people in extreme poverty eating whatever meat they can locate and it being a part of the regular culture. If it truly is a part of the Haitian culture -- and not just eaten during times of necessity -- then it should be possible to find the name of a dish that uses cats as an ingredient.GaryK wrote: ↑Wed Sep 18, 2024 9:04 pmHaving lived in Liberia, Africa, we quickly learned that you never know for sure what kind of meat you are eating in any given dish that includes meat, unless you ask. When we first arrived in Liberia, there were very few dogs and cats around because most of them were eaten during the 15 year civil war that had ended 1 year before we arrived.
