Today the brothers from Chernigovski church visited David Grabovski. He is at the training ground V/Ch A3435 in the village of Desna, Chernigovski Oblast. There is a Pentecostal believer with him in the same barracks who was recruited shortly before him (he even sleeps near him).
He has the same understanding as David regarding weapons and the oath. That is, he will not bear arms or make an oath but he is not refusing to serve. He was very happy when David arrived and they have been supporting each other. In the morning relatives and their minister had already visited David. Of course, there is pressure being put on David and his companion regarding the oath, but we will pray that God would support them and give them the strength to stand strong. The soldiers told us that they may be there a month and then they will split them up among the various war sections. We will see what will happen with David.

Brief instructions about what questions are necessary to give when calling the recruitment office:

1. Believers from Sacramento, America are calling you (they may ask you to introduce yourselves and may ask you who you are in relation to our fellow believer). You should say that he is our fellow believer or brother in Christ. We are Evangelical Christian Baptists.

2. We are interested in knowing the fate or situation connected with our brother in Christ (for example Evgeni Vasilenko) since we heard that he was being forced into military service.

3. Our brother is not refusing to fulfill his civic duty. We ask you to consider the issue of giving him the opportunity of non-military service in agreement with the Constitution of Ukraine, article 35

4. Non-military service is not in the ranks of the armed forces of Ukraine.

5. The religious conviction of our brother does not allow him to bear arms.

6. When can I call again to find out about this issue?

7. If they tell you that the law about alternative service is cancelled and has no effect during war time, that is how it is. However, in Ukraine, the principal of a rule of law applies . That means, that even in war time, in agreement with the 8th article of the Constitution of Ukraine it’s norms have supreme legal force.

8. According to the resolutions of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine #2066 from 11/10/1999 Evangelical Christian Baptists belong to a religious organisation, a denomination which does not allow the use of weapons.

9. If they tell you that the church where the brother is a member is not registered, then you must say that in agreement with the laws of Ukraine about the freedom of conscience and religious organisations article 8: “Notifying government organisations about the formation of religious communities is not required.”

10. If they tell you that such issues are not decided here, ask them where you should call. Ask for the phone number where such things are decided.

11. We request that you ask politely and not demand. Let your meekness be known to all people.

12. We request that you bless them… you can say, “May the Lord bless you in resolving this issue!”
