Mostly lies
In which case they’re functioning approximately like our own country conducts foreign affairs.

Sure. The US government lies too.

Remember "Weapons of Mass Destruction" and Iraq? The US government lied its way into that war just like Russia lied its way into Ukraine.

Or we can rewind another 20 years and look at all the lies that were told about Vietnam.

Crimea is not a playground. It is the internationally recognized sovereign territory of Ukraine. Which Russia had promised to respect and has since reneged. The actual narrative is the following:
Did you read the article? It's from the Associated Press about the history of Crimea in both the USSR and during the last few years. The title is a play on the fact that Crimea is a popular tourist destination because of its Black Sea beaches.

Sure. Likewise one might say that Cancun and Puerta Vallarta are popular beach destinations for American tourists. But that doesn't entitle the US to covet or invade Mexico. Which is exactly what happened here.

What would you say would permit the US to invade Haiti?

Are we planning to invade Haiti?

Going as part of an international peacekeeping expedition to quell violence and disorder at the invitation of the host country is not an invasion.

If the US were trying to annex Haiti as the 51st state or new US territory then that would be an invasion.

What does that have to do with whether Crimea is a playground (popular beach destination)? You contradicted the AP article's claim, saying "Crimea is not a playground." Is there any reason it can't be both a playground and sovereign Ukraine territory?

I agree with Ken Sylvania here. I'm confused by the response.

Yes. Anyone who dared criticising the war was accused of being allied with terrorists. France didn’t want to join the coalition and so we saw the spectacle of people trying to rename French fries to freedom fries.

Now in the rear view mirror… a million dead bodies, and for nothing. Imagine if all that money had been spent instead on fixing health care.
