Almost 9100 posts, Miller Farm, paying ministers... and a poll!
We need a food poll.
What is your spice level? Copied from another source (must be some comparison between Americans and Indonesians?).
Spice level 1- Normal for Americans. Tastes like siracha sauce or spicey Popeyes chicken.
Spice level 2- Above normal for Americans. Like ground chili sauce.
Spice level 3- Americans.. Water! Give me water! Lots of water!
Spice level 4- Indonesians consider to be somewhat spicey. Americans cannot talk right.
Spice level 5- Americans: "it burns! It really burns! Indonesians: Oh, hello! This is spicey!
Vote and discuss.

I grow many varieties of peppers. I grow ghost peppers and sparingly use the dehydrated powder I make at the table.
One habanero, chopped up fine, is about the right level for me for one meal.
I have no interest in hot pepper eating contests. I eat peppers to enjoy them, not to suffer. I warn our customers to be very careful when they buy anything hotter than a habanero.

Tabasco sauce and Frank's Red Hot are on the enjoyable level for me. I learned that both Giant Food and Weis's house brands are all but equivalent to Frank's. My employer used to make a hot sauce that I thought was really good, but they did away with it. Not sure why.

I would hazard to say this is about the right level for me. There are some curries and other Indian dishes that I can tolerate a bit more spicy but that is only because they have cheeses or a dairy sauce to moderate the spice.steve-in-kville wrote: ↑Thu Jan 11, 2024 8:38 am Tabasco sauce and Frank's Red Hot are on the enjoyable level for me. When I was 17 working in the woodshop, this old codger dared a few of us young guys to eat some pepper he grew. He didn't even know what varity is was. So we did. We paid for that more than once....

Checked level 4, but occasionally I'll do 5.
I have found that the classifications from one restaurant to the next are not consistent. Sometimes a 4 is almost unbearable, and sometimes even a 5 seems bland. (I need to keep notes on each restaurant, because we don't eat out much.) But I have to be careful about eating too many actual hot peppers "straight", because it makes me constipated. (In fact, I eat jalapenos for medicinal purposes, when my digestive system starts to get toward the other extreme. I suspect it either kills off bad bacteria, or balances the 'good' bacteria, which may get out of control.)
