This is already the most extensively documented war in history. And many of the war-crimes investigations have been more thorough than any other in history due to vast amount of electronic data that is collected today compared to the past. For example, here is the investigation that the NYT collaborated with on Bucha. Watch it and then get back to us. They have actually documented with extensive evidence specific Russian soldiers and Russian units committing specific war crimes and atrocities. Nothing remotely like this investigative report has ever been done in real time in any other war:

And no, we absolutely do NOT have equivalent reports of war crimes committed by the Ukrainian military. We simply don't.
I have seen the videos. They have all been dismissed or hand waved away.
There is evidence that Ukraine soldiers fought from hospitals and schools.
There is evidence that Ukraine soldiers executed prisoners of war without trial.
There is evidence of the treatment of pro-Russian civilians.
You simply believe western propaganda.

To clearly state it, I have heard nothing reliable to contradict most of the accounts of Russian acts but I cannot read Russian.
The little I have seen or heard was from pro-Russian sources hand waving away it too.
The key word is equivalent, war crimes are war crimes and the victor rarely faces consequences. I’m not arguing equivalent, I’m arguing both sides are committing war crimes
I have not seen the level of energy being put in to proving or disproving Ukrainian supposed war crimes. I also know the US media has been paid off before to not publish certain things our own troops have done which qualified as war crimes.

In watching these horrific videos, we can only weep for the victims and their loved ones, who are suffering under these atrocities. Putin and his military are bullies and bullies always sense weakness. Our weak president emboldened Putin by lifting sanctions on Russia, including NS2. Ukrainian and Polish allies sternly warned that doing so would enable and embolden Russian aggression. They were right. Our president gave Putin the green light for a "minor incursion". (Biden’s own words). I am not defending the former president, but his brash, unpredictable leadership, kept our nation out of war and possibly prevented the cost of the lives of these people. Under Biden it seems like our nation is in a proxy war, possibly paying off Zelenski to protect the corrupt Biden crime family.

CARDINAL SARAH

OPINION: “The Ignored Views of Cardinal Sarah on Russia and the West”
Cardinal Sarah believes that the West’s greatest enemy has never been al-Qaida, ISIS, or China, much less Russia,
but rather the West itself—and none of those professing to admire him have seen fit to notice.
Jerry D. Salyer
https://www.crisismagazine.com/opinion/ ... d-the-west
Why does the West want to annihilate what it built in the first place?
The real enemy of the West is the West itself, its imperviousness to God and to spiritual values,
which resembles a process of lethal self-destruction.
—Robert Cardinal Sarah, The Day Is Now Far Spent

By this point, the contours of the Viganò debate are pretty clear. Where Archbishop Viganò blames an expansionist NATO and post-Christian West for the war in Ukraine, His Excellency’s critics believe he is not only whitewashing the harsh realities of Vladimir Putin’s regime but also ignoring key points of just war doctrine. As the archbishop often employs apocalyptic language to describe the convoluted machinations of globalists, there is also concern that he is turning into an eccentric conspiracy theorist. Rather than add to the already sizable volume of commentary either for or against Archbishop Viganò, it seems to me more interesting to note that in one sense he is not alone. That is, he is not the only churchman—or even the highest ranking—who has, on occasion, “looked East” to remedy “the errors of the West.”

Indeed, among observant Catholics it would be hard to find a living churchman more universally esteemed than Robert Cardinal Sarah.
A Francophone native of Guinea, Cardinal Sarah has been characterized by no less a luminary than George Weigel as “a bright shining light,” one whose “faith illuminates the path to authentic Catholic reform.” For the most part, other Catholic commentators seem to share this view. Yet most who have heaped praises upon the cardinal have consistently and conspicuously ignored how dramatically the cardinal’s worldview clashes with that of America’s conservative Catholic establishment. It is not even as if the cardinal’s inconvenient views were curtly dismissed; no, they were not even acknowledged. ..
.. For instance, back in 2019 when Cardinal Sarah’s book The Day Is Now Far Spent came out, this writer was struck not only by the book’s emphatic and repeated condemnation of finance capitalism and globalization but also by the utter lack of interest reviewers exhibited toward this part of the book. Pointed statements like “Globalized humanity, without borders, is a hell,” were unambiguous, and surely relevant to the fiery controversies which were still roiling in the wake of Brexit and the election of Donald Trump.
Few Catholic journalists have so much as alluded to such remarks.

As far as I know, nobody at all saw fit to notice Cardinal Sarah’s reflections upon U.S.-Russian relations, even though said relations have been a subject of burning interest in conservative Catholic circles for some time now. It was almost as if most Catholic journalists were simply ignoring statements like the following, which could by no means be rendered into safe, conservative-establishment boilerplate:
In Russia, the Orthodox Church has to a great extent resumed its pre-1917 role as the moral foundation of society.
This arouses political opposition, but also a deep hatred on the part of the post-Christian elites of the West, not only vis-à-vis Russia, but also against the Russian Orthodox Church and, by extension, against Orthodox Christianity itself. The overtly political attack that aims to pit Ukraine against the Russian Orthodox Church under the authority of Patriarch Cyril of Moscow is a dangerous, stupid provocation.

Here a number of implicit positions on the part of His Eminence should be conceded, positions with which we may or may not agree. For one thing, unlike most Americans, Cardinal Sarah does not accept the idea of a “wall of separation” between church and state.

Furthermore, he does not dismiss the Russian Orthodox Church either as a KGB front or a clique of damned schismatics. ..
 There is more! ..

Even as a non-Catholic, Cardinal Sarah as pope would be a life experience i’d love to witness.

Russia's law that prohibits antiwar activism and criticism of the military is being challenged.

https://www.nytimes.com/live/2023/04/25 ... =url-share
A group of leading Russian lawyers on Tuesday asked the country’s highest court to declare a law banning criticism of the Russian armed forces unconstitutional, a rare display of opposition against draconian censorship measures imposed by the Kremlin in the wake of the invasion of Ukraine.

The complaint, filed by three lawyers and supported by 10 more, most of whom are still in Russia, asked the Constitutional Court to repeal the measure, which has emerged as the Kremlin’s most effective tool for stifling antiwar dissent in the country.
More than 6,500 Russians have been penalized for “discrediting” the Russian Army since the law was passed by the Russian Parliament eight days after the full-scale invasion of Ukraine began in February 2022, the lawyers said. People found to have broken the law are fined first, but being convicted of a repeat offense within a year can result in up to five years in prison.

The complaint filed on Tuesday was made on behalf of more than 20 Russians who were fined for criticizing the invasion. One of them, Maksim Filippov, was fined $650 for holding a poster in central Moscow that said, “Give peace a chance.” Others were fined for holding posters saying, “Pacifism is not a crime,” and for antiwar activities, including likes or reposts of other content on social media, and even in private conversations or messages.
