I looked up the guy's Twitter feed. No credentials. Posts a lot of pro-Russian stuff. Could be Russian misinformation. Does it matter?

These two guys making these allegations would be Russian prisoners recruited by the private mercenary firm the Wagner Group (survive six months and get a pardon). The Wagner Group has been sending thousands of these recruited prisoners into the meat grinder to wear down Ukrainian forces because they are completely disposable human beings.

Why do you post things that you have no idea where they come from? Posting some random thing from Twitter and then say, "I don't read Twitter" is not a great defense.

I think that's a lazy excuse. Media reported Smollett's accusations because that's the information they had at the time. Once it came out that Smollett was lying, media reported that too. I found multiple stories in the NYT that reported on Smollett's deception and the legal consequences he faced for it.

News isn't perfect. News makes mistakes. Credible sources are accountable and attempt to get the story right even if they make mistakes. Randos on Twitter are not accountable to anyone.

There are enough horrific stories from credible sources about what the Russians are doing in Ukraine to give credence.

The Russians are commiting genocide in the Ukraine. There are enough sources are reporting stories that indicate horrific war crimes.

For example, kidnapping Ukrainian children and sending them to Russian families in order to Russify them is a war crime (which is why the ICC has an arrest warrant for Putin). This may be considered genocide if it's intended to erase their national identity.

I think it's lazy and easy to grab whatever nonsense that's floating out there in order to deny that what's happening in Ukraine is happening.

Truth is complicated. Sometimes truth is slippery. Figuring out truth is difficult and a discipline that has to be practiced. I look up various human rights reports and read multiple sources to try to understand what's going on. Simply declaring that there's no truth and everything''s a lie is lazy.

Sure war crimes happen on all sides and sure propaganda is thick, but there's enough coming out from sources that I trust to say that something is going on.

For example, the abduction of Ukrainian children and adoption by Russian families is being investigated by groups like the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, The International Criminal Court, Amnesty International and Missing Children Europe. These are credible NGOs. And we know that Russian law changed in order to make it easier for Russian families to adopt Ukrainian children, which is a war crime.

i pulled a random comment, there were several questioning, i pulled one example.

the MW tweet is extremely serious. don’t you believe it needs to be questioned? tweets like that easily ramp up violence.

i didn’t jump on the Jussie Smollett bandwagon either. i don’t live far from Chicago. they’re my neighbors.
thankfully, that story was so questionable from the start, no violence resulted from it. it could have.
the mainstream wanted it to be true. i find that worse than lazy.

I agree with this opinion piece that argues that it's in Kyiv's best interest to investigate allegations of war crimes by Ukrainian troops and to ratify the Rome Statute that would bring them into the ICC system.
