They're not doing a great job of keeping lies off of Truth Social.Robert wrote: ↑Sun Jan 08, 2023 4:05 pmWho decides what is a lie? I disagree with a lot they were saying was lies.
The government is free to post what they see as the truth but should not be shutting down other voices on social media or anywhere. What is going to keep Donald Trump from doing the same thing if he gets reelected? Do you really want the Trump Admin deciding what is the truth and what is a lie?

Everything I tell you is a lie.
This statement is not true.

Again, the government can't and doesn't determine who gets to post on Twitter and what they can post on Twitter. Only Twitter can do that. Government officials can ask that Twitter review and take down certain posts. Just like you or I can do the same exact thing. But it is ultimately up to Twitter how to run their web site subject to the same basic laws as every other media outlet such as libel, slander, government secrets, etc.Robert wrote: ↑Sun Jan 08, 2023 5:00 pmAnd I disagree when this was done also. The US government should not be telling any private company what is and is not accepted speech. I see a problem with that when any government does that. They can reply, comment and post any truths then see fit. The Twitter files being released is showing how much the Biden Administration did this and used it weight to make it happen. I choose not to white wash it and make it sound acceptable. It is not and it is contrary to the US Constitution Bill of Rights.
SCOTUS has even ruled that hate speech has to be allowed. Now we see the US administration deciding it is not. They are wrong and it is wrong for them to push to shut down speech. It was clearly wrong for Schiff to shut down the voice of a reporter reporting on him. At first Twitter said no, but soon after that reporter was banned. No reason, just banned.
In addition, the enforcement arm of the government during all of this time period was controlled by Trump and Republicans. Even Schiff had zero ability to funnel a dime of money to Twitter. That came through the executive branch and apparently the FBI which was controlled by a Trump appointee.
I fail to see what the scandal is here.

I do. You do not have to agree with me, but I do not have to agree with you.

I understand your concerns and share some of them, but I still wonder how you think social media platforms should handle things like coordinated propaganda programs, especially by foreign governments?

That’s a good question, now that we know the FBI was running a coordinated propaganda program with Twitter.

Besides the US with Twitter, what organized propaganda programs are you talking about? I would rather speak to specifics then generalities on this.

Elon Musk himself told us that 90% of comments on Twitter are bots. Which seems high but that was his claim.Robert wrote: ↑Mon Jan 09, 2023 10:47 amMore light is the answer, not more control or regulation.

Here is an example of 9 Million bot Tweets that Twitter discovered from one single Russian troll farm in 2018: https://www.vox.com/2018/10/19/17990946 ... -tampering
Here is evidence that during the early months of COVID, nearly 200 million Tweets about COVID were bots or about 50% of the total, most likely of Russian and Chinese origin and designed to sow dissention within the US: https://www.npr.org/sections/coronaviru ... ikely-bots

Google “the Twitter files FBI” and read the journalist’s own words.
