It's actually the opposite of the Smollett incident. The reporter wrote a separate story about how she tracked down all the other principle players and observers in the events (administrators, school board, parents, etc.) and interviewed all of them to get the story, but that it took her a year to get the woman involved to agree to tell her story because she was so reluctant to get the publicity and fearful of how more publicity would affect her career and family's future. https://www.propublica.org/article/cece ... ee-georgiaFalco Underhill wrote: ↑Mon Jun 20, 2022 12:36 amI looked at it, skimmed it, and there's nothing I can say about it. The accusations of threatening and racist letters strike me as way off the wall. Of course, she said there were many such letters, but she happened to save only one, which it so happens was not signed.Ken wrote: ↑Sun Jun 19, 2022 11:55 pmNo, I'm not saying that. What I am saying is that there is no actual analysis at all. Instead, a whole lot of conservatives are throwing around the terms "woke" and "CRT" with no analysis of what they are actually talking about. For example, Ron DeSantis' recent "Anti-Wokeness" bill they passed in Florida. It had nothing to do with what you are defining as "wokeness". Rather, it has a whole bunch of anti-CRT language that actually has nothing to do with CRT. Read or at least skim the article I linked to and tell me if you are at least vaguely disturbed by the mob mentality depicted there.Falco Underhill wrote: ↑Sun Jun 19, 2022 9:54 pm
Well, not everyone has been academically trained about such things, and if conservatives sometimes miss the mark I'll bet "liberals" are no less easy to caricature doing similar things.
If you're trying to suggest an analysis of woke ideology necessarily leads to racism then you are already making the same mistakes about it as you say they are making with respect to CRT.
See how easy it happens on both sides?
Of all the ones to save, why save only one that was not signed and left no clue where it came from?
When I read that I instantly thought of Jusse Smollett.
Anybody could have written that, herself, or a socialist who wants to put a nazi scare out there, or maybe even an actual right-wing racist.
The fact is, I simply can't tell and am not inclined to believe such outrageous stories automatically these days.
It makes me doubtful of the entire narrative.

That is a 6 year old film about Ferguson, MO and the killing of Trayvon Martin. When you hear people using the term today it is 99% likely to be conservatives in a lather about something vaguely related to social justice or racism with which they disapprove. Do you not think that racism and social justice are necessary and important issues to address in this country?Falco Underhill wrote: ↑Mon Jun 20, 2022 8:49 am
Just so you know we don't just make these terms up out of the blue. It is due to this "continuing awareness" of racial and social justice issues that they refer to themselves as "Woke."
Studies show the "awareness" referred to here is historically rooted in the Critical Theory of neomarxism as exemplified by Herbert Marcuse. So "Woke" isn't a racist name imposed on these movements from the outside, it's the way members of the movement choose to describe themselves.
Don't blame us for the terminology, we're just trying to keep up!
As for the whole "neomarxism" stuff? That is all YOU overlaying the writings of an old irrelevant 1960s leftist writer Herbert Marcuse (who died over 40 years ago) onto a present day movement. And who obviously was NOT writing about the social justice movements of today, two generations after his death.
My point is that when today, in 2022, you hear conservatives throwing around the term "woke" to each other they mostly don't actually know what they are talking about and it sounds weird and silly to anyone who isn't part of that hermetically sealed ecosystem.

What is wrong about conservatives claiming a phrase and redefining it? isn't that what happens all the time with language, and more intentionally with liberals?Ken wrote: ↑Mon Jun 20, 2022 11:37 amThat is a 6 year old film about Ferguson, MO and the killing of Trayvon Martin. Maybe it is you who need to accept the new definition of the word instead of being all conservative about definitions?

It is about how the Woke ideology is taking over the elite law schools in the U.S. He knows wherof he speaks as he saw it as a Yale student. He is an alumni of Yale now is at least every bit as educated as you fancy yourself.
How about listening to someone before just dismissing them as weird and silly? Or not, you can go ahead and remain in your bubble.

Re: New Thread: What are your thoughts re Hegelian Dialectic & CRT in the Church?
Conservatives can do anything they want and use any language that they want. I'm just pointing out that when conservatives use the term "Woke" to refer to any sort of vaguely left social justice topic they want to criticize it is pretty much the exact same thing as when liberals using the term "fascist" or "Nazi" to describe any vaguely conservative proposal that they don't like. It sounds silly to anyone not part of that ecosystem and it is a sure sign that the argument lacks any sort of rigor. I could find you hundreds of examples of leftists labeling virtually any conservative idea as "fascist". But that says more about them and the weakness of their arguments and the fact that they are speaking to each other within a hermetically-sealed ecosystem than anything else. The same goes for conservatives who today in 2022 seem to love using the term "woke" to describe any policy they don't like that has any vague connection to social justice.RZehr wrote: ↑Mon Jun 20, 2022 11:56 amWhat is wrong about conservatives claiming a phrase and redefining it? isn't that what happens all the time with language, and more intentionally with liberals?Ken wrote: ↑Mon Jun 20, 2022 11:37 amThat is a 6 year old film about Ferguson, MO and the killing of Trayvon Martin. The Epoch Times video that requires me to register on their site and subscribe before watching? No thanks. I'm not interested in signing up for an Epoch Times account. If you can't summarize the argument in a couple of sentences then it probably isn't very coherent. I don't watch long political videos of any sort, right or left. I find them to be a giant waste of time. If people can't put their arguments down in a coherent manner on paper then I'm not very interested.Falco Underhill wrote: ↑Mon Jun 20, 2022 12:05 pmYou sound like a weird and silly person wrapped up in your own little bubble when you talk that way.Ken wrote: ↑Mon Jun 20, 2022 11:37 amThat is a 6 year old film about Ferguson, MO and the killing of Trayvon Martin. Video/Discussion (not sure the link works for everyone)

i think of these longer (podcasts) videos as much like college lecture classes. i set time aside, prepare to listen.
sometimes i listen while walking. sometimes i listen again while doing other tasks. i try to view+listen the first time. to pick up facial expression, body language, whatever graphics, etc., might be presented.
i’m aware of present popularity of quick sound bites - for everything. that’s an overall loss. it grooms “no memory.”
relying on, or trading, google searches for memory is not acceptable.
TRANSCRIPTS
some videos offer transcripts! this is ideal. (my opinion)
