I know some folks would like to see Paul and Eli punished for their outstandingly poor judgement which contributed to this debacle. I don't feel that CAM has ever indicated that they intend do punish them.
I don't really know what else should be done to them... They shouldn't have done it, they lost their jobs...

Well, some folks think they should have been suspended without pay instead of being suspended with pay...
maybe there should also be an ecclesiastical spanking...

I was seeing people in the medical field getting suspended without pay indefinitely if they had a religious objection to the vaccine... My take is that investigations take time and if they ended up being innocent... they would have pretty bad economic suffering. I'd rather pay a possible bad person while investigating then harm an innocent person.

The Form 990 would appear to corroborate the statement that they were placed on administrative leave part-way through 2019. CAM said in July that these two men were being placed on administrative leave. As a general rule, an employee continues to receive regular pay and benefits while on administrative leave. How was this misleading?

BTW, an annual salary of $95k for a Vice President position of an organization the size of CAM is not what I would call "highly paid."
Does this look like severe consequences to you that CAM said were happening? Does this look like an organization looking at the gravity of the situation as promised? CAM was waiting for this to hopefully just go away so that business as usual could continue.

This is how one businessman and supporter of CAM described the JM rapes to me recently in a private email, " I don't know if you received CAM's Annual Report but I see donors are satisfied with their working through issues they had with an worker or two. It's unfortunate but sometimes it takes a problem like this to make improvements and develop a plan. Cash donations were up substantially and they well more than doubled the number of Bibles distributed from the year before."

This is a reflection of CAM, downplaying rape as just an issue they had with a worker. And I guess if donations are up, then who really cares what happened? Such a sad testimony of the CA community.
I'm not sure exactly what you are referring to by "severe consequences that CAM said were happening. Was that in one of their updates or was it a private conversation? It's not language I remember hearing from CAM but I'm not sure if I saw all their updates either.
I'm was just giving my perspective, which is that I don't feel like CAM misled me into thinking these two had been fired mid-2019.

I know some folks would like to see Paul and Eli punished for their outstandingly poor judgement which contributed to this debacle. I don't feel that CAM has ever indicated that they intend do punish them.
1. Is it true that CAM management allowed Jeriah Mast to continue working with CAM after they knew that he had sexually abused minors?

CAM’s Board of Directors was not aware of any sexual conduct between Jeriah and minors until 2019. Paul Weaver and Eli Weaver are two men who have faithfully served the Lord and our ministry for many years in management roles. Unfortunately, they allowed Jeriah to continue to work in the field even after his confession in 2013 of sexual activity with young men that had taken place several years prior. Both men recognize that their failure to properly investigate and inquire into Jeriah’s conduct was a serious failure in judgment and should have severe consequences.

This is CAM's statement that was made publicly, severe consequences to me would include getting fired quickly and a public report issued to make sure other organizations don't hire men like this.

The above referenced statement goes on to say:
4. Will CAM take any personnel action in this case?

CAM is placing Paul Weaver and Eli Weaver on administrative leave pending a full investigation of their role in this matter. The Board and leadership of CAM understand the gravity of the situation and have mutually come to realize it would be difficult to work through this case with their involvement.
When statements like this are made, it would be appropriate to follow up with information on whether the investigation was conducted, and what its conclusions including the final personnel actions were. Administrative leave with pay can be justified up to a point; through the end of the year (7 months) seems somewhat generous in the case of a "serious failure in judgment" that "should have severe consequences" -- but how much longer into 2020 did that continue? Perhaps even into 2021?

Ernie wrote: ↑Mon May 23, 2022 8:20 pm I also wondered whether they would continue to work for CAM after some time elapsed, but from what I understand, that never happened. Their status was in review for quite awhile, but last year a decision was made that they will not be returning to work for CAM.
So my understanding at this point would be: Paul and Eli Weaver were put on paid leave from June 2019 to until sometime in 2021.

Many of us had said from the beginning that an independent resource should have been used to investigate. I still feel that way. Any corporate entity with multiple layers of management can make things "go away."

Unfortunately, its sad reality many of us work in with our jobs... :o

Pelerin wrote: ↑Mon May 23, 2022 9:39 pm Let me ask for more clarification here. You said “their status was in review for quite awhile.” Does that mean that someone in CAM was actively reviewing their actions regarding Jeriah (i.e. there was an internal investigation)?

You also said that “last year a decision was made.” Who made the decision? Does this mean that the CAM board decide to fire them at this point? Or that they voluntarily decided (or were convinced to voluntarily decide) to not return?

So my understanding at this point would be: Paul and Eli Weaver were put on paid leave from June 2019 to until sometime in 2021. During this time they weren’t doing work for CAM apart from some minor help in transitioning. Would that be accurate?
I'm sorry that I did not see this before now. I don't know the answer to your questions. I am planning to ask some questions this summer.
Thanks, Ernie. I didn’t mean to imply at all that I thought you were dodging my questions. You’ve been very forthright and have been a credit to CAM, though sometimes I think you’re trying to save them from themselves, and that’s often a losing battle.

Yes I think CAM should have let their supporters know the outcome of the matter whether or not they commissioned an independent report.
