Many rural-based industries are booming. Construction for example is extremely busy. The RV business is wild. Food retailers are still seeing strong increases.
Basically, city people are moving to rural areas because the city economy is effectively closed.
It begs the question why not just let the cities reopen, function normally, instead of having to flood our rural areas with city people.

I just talked to a friend from South Dakota, where the real estate market is absolutely insane. There really is some migration happening from urban to rural areas due to the virus.

So... Wait a few years for the reality of winter to set in and buy cheap properties as they flee back to Cali?

I grew up in rural Georgia watching the refugees from NY move in and almost always back out. The local culture was not to their taste.

SOUTH DAKOTA?
There's rural and then there's rural. You can find plenty of rural 1 hour outside NYC or Chicago. Why are people moving to South Dakota? I can understand places like Vermont. There was a big NYT article recently about that. But South Dakota? And yes, I've been there. I worked on combining crews for several summers, ending in South Dakota not far from the Pine Ridge reservation. It would not be on any of my lists of places to move back to.
Living rural doesn't really protect you from Covid anyway if you have to shop at the only grocery store within 30 miles that everyone else in the county shops at.

Real estate is insane here as well. Multiple offers over asking price within a day or two of hitting the market. Personally I have been seeing local people buying for the first time or moving up due to the low interest rates. There may be some migration from the cities but I have not personally seen that.
The Michigan Supreme Court has struck down an emergency powers law used by the state’s governor to keep the lockdown and other restrictions in place amid the CCP virus pandemic.

Try hard not to offend. Try harder not to be offended.
I think I am funnier than I really am.

US States ranked by number of deaths per million of population. After all this time, it is clearer than ever that New York and New Jersey's status at the top of the list is basically untouchable. And although Louisiana, Mississippi, Arizona, and Illinois are in the top 10, the other 6 are all in the Northeast.
