Reasons to delay a funeral/memorial service?

A former school teacher and coach passed away back in November. I saw the death notice but never an obituary. A few days ago I saw they published quite a lengthy obituary and his service is in two weeks.
Any logical reason the family would wait so long for the service? I'm ignorant in such things.

That is quite a time span. I know in the case of my grandmother that mom told my aunt that if she were traveling they would delay the service til she got home. The same would have been true of my mom- if she had died while my sister and her husband were away- they were in Africa for 3 weeks helping with a hospital there- we would have waited.
So maybe someone in the family was away and couldn't make it back before now- or in rehab or some other medical reason? Interesting the obituary was postponed too.
not sure why- but that does seem like a long postponement.

I re-read the obit. No mention of internment. I wonder if he was cremated? Family was spread out across the country, though.

My landlady passed away just before Christmas. Her memorial service is in March. I think it probably has to do with when the family is able to come together.

When the wife of a 2nd cousin of mine passed away during the "covid episode" the burial went ahead, but the memorial service was delayed for nearly a year, until the lock-down was lifted. (My understanding is that this is part of the reason the term 'memorial service' was used, because it wasn't really a 'funeral' in the normal sense of the word.) (I wrote '2nd cousin', but actually she was married to my Dad's cousin, so more properly, "1st cousin once removed', although in our culture I would have addressed her as "Aunt'. Her husband is the son of my grandmother's sister. Plautdietsch cultural 'rules' require that the Aunt or Uncle titles be used for one's parent's cousins.)

In my extended family, it is getting more common to cremate & then put off a memorial until it suits everyone.
This is already starting to change to the people closest to the deceased going ahead & scattering the ashes on their own, and others being told later that “Uncle Joe will be in his favorite ocean forever now” or something similar.
I don’t think anyone in my family cares. It’s less pressure on everyone & honestly less drama.
Respectfully to them, I don’t think any one of them would consider themselves believers of the Bible.

There are things that have happened here that have made me reconsider my long established views on reincarnation.
