Were the executions (mandated by God himself) in the OT private or were they public spectacles?Judas Maccabeus wrote: ↑Tue Oct 13, 2026 11:54 am It just shows how far some segments of our society have sunk. Are you comparing Pete Hegseth to God?JoyE wrote: ↑Tue Oct 13, 2026 9:31 am When Moses spoke the execution of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram, I'd say that was pretty public: in front of all Israel. The earth opened up and swallowed all those rebellious people, and they fell screaming into the pit. After which God sent down fire to burn up 250 more men. That was not at all private. Traumatic to behold? Of course. But God had a reason--to show what He thinks of sin.

Another story would be Achan.
He kept a gold bar and a robe for himself.
He, his wife, children, and livestock were stoned to death and then buried underneath a pile of rocks.
This was, needless to say, quite public.

It’s not a silly question at all. Are people arguing that human leadership has the same power and authority as God?Valerie wrote: ↑Tue Oct 13, 2026 5:56 pmThat’s a silly question.Szdfan wrote: ↑Tue Oct 13, 2026 3:03 pmAre you comparing Pete Hegseth to God?JoyE wrote: ↑Tue Oct 13, 2026 9:31 am When Moses spoke the execution of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram, I'd say that was pretty public: in front of all Israel. God’s judgment of Korah does not mean that Hegseth is morally justified in the public execution of Hasan.

Public. BUT the form of justice administered in our courts is sub Biblical. IF you are going to approve of Old Testament punishments, according to the Law of God, than you must follow all of the law, including the law for lieing witnesses:JohnH wrote: ↑Tue Oct 13, 2026 12:40 pmWere the executions (mandated by God himself) in the OT private or were they public spectacles?Judas Maccabeus wrote: ↑Tue Oct 13, 2026 11:54 am It just shows how far some segments of our society have sunk. Deut 19:15-19. One witness shall not rise up against a man for any iniquity, or for any sin, in any sin that he sinneth: at the mouth of two witnesses, or at the mouth of three witnesses, shall the matter be established. 16If a false witness rise up against any man to testify against him that which is wrong; 17Then both the men, between whom the controversy is, shall stand before the LORD, before the priests and the judges, which shall be in those days; 18And the judges shall make diligent inquisition: and, behold, if the witness be a false witness, and hath testified falsely against his brother; 19Then shall ye do unto him, as he had thought to have done unto his brother: so shalt thou put the evil away from among you.
Since the witness are not in jepodary for testifying falsely, and the punishment for being a false witness is not applied, one cannot say that the current death penelty is in accordence with God's word. The civil ruler can mandate whatever he chose but is is not a Biblicaly consistent system. So current executions are not done as God mandated, since the trial is not as God mandated.

Would you agree that the unless a government follows the entire Mosaic code, they can’t use restitution as a punishment for stealing?(and last I checked. Perjury is a rather serious crime and the standard for evidence including of witnesses in American law is stricter than the OT law)

No. But don't say that something the state does is Biblically consistent, because it simply is not.JohnH wrote: ↑Tue Oct 13, 2026 9:07 pmOkay.
