No. I'm about 7 minutes away by car. I have access to a railroad monitoring website that gives me an idea if there is anything on its way. Last I heard, we averaged 50 trains per day.

I used to enjoy skiing at Blue Knob when my parents had a cabin nearby. Great backpacking trails in Pennsylvania also. Try getting off the roads!

It doesn't work that way. I had to go through an application process (which anyone can do). It takes a week or so get approved.

Google TrainMon5. That'll get you started.

Cool! That's a nice amount of rail traffic. Thanks for posting the clips.

Before I had the TM5 ability, it was quite inefficient, especially if I wanted to make sure we would see something (like with children). There is a magical, mystical time on a Sunday morning that both tracks will run eastbound, almost side-by-side! That's what I want to capture on camera.

I get the impression that "beside the tracks" is where Steve really does feel alive.

Thus explaining why he doesn't mind if his threads don't stay on track.

Truth be told, I like to compare this to deer hunting: except what I'm hunting weighs 400,000 pounds, is 70' long and says Norfolk Southern on the side.

Beats sitting in a tree stand, IMO.

Oh, and when the train crew taps the horn... that'll make anyone's day :D
