Democrats were in full support and public about giving cash to vulnerable Americans in the stimulus bill.

Tonight, they voted AGAINST it, while millions of Americans need it. Democrats blocked the Corona Virus Stimulus bill.

The sticking point appears to be $500 billion for corporations without adequate accountability for it.

Yes. The Democrats want provisions that the aid is not used for corporate stock buybacks and want provisions to protect the workers. Also, the Republicans tried a bill they authored themselves without working together with the Democrats. Time to work together, folks!

I think bolstering unemployment insurance was also in the mix.

(from the Article) "As recently as Saturday, Democratic Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (N.Y.) was hailing the measure as bipartisan".

Agreed it is time to work together, and that works both ways. However it has been proven that that there are some (not all) Democrat politicians who hate Trump and the people who voted for him, more than they care about this country, so working together isn't one of their strong points. Also, I fear the Democrats like Pelosi, want to sneak in socialist programs in their bill.

I am just shaking my head and trying to think what the reaction would be if it were the republicans blocking a relief bill en mass like this.

I think if we are honest we know the answer. Thankfully here in Canada in spite of party politics being at an all time high just a half year ago the parties are actually working together to make things happen. Parties are taking the time to thank each other for that cooperation.
To bad the borders are closed. You could send a bunch of your politicians up here for a bit of watch and learn training.

I did my order from your company last night and it looks like you have a lot of empty slots in your warehouse. As in little to no flour, wheat, rice, pasta etc.
I was off the end of last week. There are still plenty of the above, just substitutions. Our mail/web order end of things is through the roof! The beginning of a new era??

As long as customers keep everything.... I heard there are some pretty tight return restrictions if you hoard. Not just us, but most grocery stores in the area.

I'm hearing of stores suspending returns temporarily. Might be a good idea. Our salesman called this morning and he's running through our list of T/Os to see what can be substituted.

So the latest on my work:

Last night the governor of Colorado issued an order for non-essential businesses to reduce their on location workforce by 50% unless they can prove that employees can do their job 6 feet apart from each other. The governor claims that he does not have the ability to enforce a shelter-in-place order and hopes that these limited measures will get more buy-in. He also said that the grim reaper is a better enforcer than the state government. :?

San Miguel County has a shelter-in-place order issued by local authorities. They're one of the harder hit counties in Colorado because the coronavirus spread at the ski slopes early on.

So the company is directing office staff that can telecommute to work at home. They are putting further measures in to prevent people from getting too close to each other -- i.e. rooms with two entrances now have a designated entrance and exit. My boss has asked me not to go down certain hallways that pass through other departments, etc.

The word from upstairs is that we do anticipate that we will get shut down at some point, but are trying to keep going forward and getting as many orders done as possible. They're promising / hoping to keep paying us even if the factory shuts down. We'll see.

Considering that the virus can spread on surfaces, that might be a really prudent idea.

One of the reasons our store shelves are pretty empty right now is because we got mobbed by people coming down from Denver (a three hour trip) and cleaning us out. A shelter-in-place order could help with that.
