Ya know, if I did this in one of your threads you would complain about how I'm derailing the conversation and preventing discussion. I guess if it's someone else's thread it's OK behavior?
As far as I can tell, that thread was spawned precisely to keep forcing a false claim about what others were saying. It spawned from the original thread when I ignored JohnH's response to me. Which is why my first post in the thread quoted what looked like the starting point.
This is one of those #2 posts.
And several other people have posted similar things in that thread, not just me. You could copy all of their posts here if you prefer. If the intent of a thread is to falsely put things into the mouths of others, I do think it's OK to object in that thread.
You may disagree. Moderators are welcome to weigh in. Here's where I quoted the posts that seemed to have spawned this, based on timing and the text of the OP:

Okay, so your objection is the particular metals used? Have you also lodged an objection with the gold-plated (well, gold-leafed - it's wood) statue of George Washington at the Idaho capitol building?
I see you created a whole new thread for this. But obviously, my concern is not just what the material is.
Gold has a certain significance - and it is certainly significant to Trump. Receiving gifts that appeal to your personal vanity from people in crypto, while you and your family are making money from crypto, while you are campaigning to make it hard to regulate crypto ... that also has a certain significance.
So do personality cults. We don't usually play "Glory to Our Supreme Leader" in the United States. There's a big shift there. I'll start a thread on the real issue as I see it. You have a tendency to try to shift the conversation to some other topic of your choice, putting into other people's mouths. This thread is an exercise in that. So I'll start my own thread to express my own point of view.

1. Are we discussing the topic? Good.
2. Are we going around and around in a fight? Let's stop doing that.
3. Is there some serious wrongdoing or relational injury? Let's address that, probably not in public and certainly not for show.
open secret
.. In a sense it was all a farce because his identity was an open secret.
From the Cambridge English Corpus
Throughout the novel, one secret in particular operates very clearly: the open secret, which others know but agree -
or conspire - not to tell.
From the Cambridge English Corpus
My play was to utilize two actors and one actress and incorporate 'diamond necklace' (noun); 'open secret' (oxymoron);
and '1981' (year).

It is an open secret now that for a long time negotiations have been going on for the purchase of these papers.

That is not a secret; it is not even an open secret; everyone knows that.

As overused as the word "relationships" is in my circles, I will use it. Relationships are built on trust. The sockpuppet should be banned.

The untruthfulness that Max/JohnL represents is corrosive to healthy interactions both in real life and online. I believe he should be banned.
If the moderators do decide to allow MaxPC to stay around, I think it would be better if the rest of us would refrain from constantly challenging his stories. I don't think the constant bickering and sniping is healthy for us.
We've been there before. Lying is acceptable, challenging lies is not.
I think you are misinterpreting or misrepresenting what I said. I did not and do not object to calling out obvious lies. For a time just about every time JohnL posted something regardless of whether or not it was demonstrably false, somebody would make a snide remark implying that it was a lie. If we value truth, we should save accusations of lies for clear lies.

I apologize. I really did misunderstand what you said.

They are not rules to be enforced (or "Decrees for to Keep" as EPMC&RA would put it), but guidelines to be respected.
"Decrees for to Keep" sounds more like PMC language than EPMC language.

Hmm, that's probably true. I was evidently conflating the linguistic oddities.
GAMEO says that VMC used similar language back in the 1930s, but I doubt that got passed down to PMC, at least not directly.

Possibly more directly than you might think. Aaron M. Shank would have had roots in VMC and was a key player in the formation of PMC.
