With the help of AI, perhaps about 160,000 MD posts were gotten from archive.org. They are now in a temporary forum https://mennodiscussarchive.xyz/index.php
Due to it being an archive, signup to this forum has been disabled. Unfortunately it does not contain every user or post that was on MD but it contains some of them. Also, it has a lot of glitches and bugs. Also I do not know if all of the posts are from the correct authors etc, but some of them seem to be. One way that can be kind of interesting is looking at posts by each member https://mennodiscussarchive.xyz/memberlist.php (on many forums you might have to be signed in to do this but I tested this not signed in and it seem to work for now). I probably won't have this forum up for too long so If anyone wants a backup of it let me know.
Please forgive all of the bugs and glitches.

Hi BF, at one point Bootstrap had an archive of some stuff from MD as well - perhaps you could merge the two.

2, the more-conservative people wouldn't be comfortable using a discussion forum like MennoNet, and are even less comfortable now that liberal-progressive voices (from their point of view) are dominant here. (I occasionally get someone who sends me a private message thanking me expressing my viewpoints here, which I sometimes find surprising since the feedback I get from the liberal-progressive here is that my viewpoint is bad, not needed, too harsh, un-Christian, etc.)

3, the more-conservative groups are the ones that retain their young people, so the "filtering process" is effectively that participation of young people is never going to happen here. If a young person in my own congregation were participating here, I would probably advise them to withdraw.

I don't see this forum as something negative for young people; on the contrary, I think it's an excellent tool for using the internet. There are many discussions in different churches about what should be done with technology, but it's clear that total technological isolation is becoming increasingly difficult.

In that sense, I think the debate should focus on how we consume the internet, and desktop computers are the best alternative to smartphones. Forums like Mennonet are a viable alternative for consuming information and debating ideas instead of doing so on TikTok or X (formerly Twitter).

I think the primary reason why there aren’t young Mennonites on this forum is because it’s a web forum and there has been a generational shift away from forums to other online platforms.

Yes, not to mention that technological disruption has meant that even young people in many Amish or Mennonite communities have a smartphone at home.

It's like the issue of radio and television these days; no young person watches television or listens to the radio. Instead, they listen to a podcast or watch their favorite streamer on YouTube
