Sun of my soul, Thou Savior dear,
It is not night if Thou be near;
O may no earth-born cloud arise
To hide Thee from Thy servant's eyes.

Abide with me from morn till eve,
For without Thee I cannot live;
Abide with me when night is night
For without Thee I dare not die.

Come near and bless us when we wake,
Ere through the world our way we take;
Till in the ocean of Thy love
We lose ourselves in heav'n above.

Recently, i woke with music playing in my mind. :D
It was a popular song when i was young, i did not realize it was originally a hymn!

.. funny, i woke with “Morning has Broken” playing in my mind. great piano and lyrics.
have not thought of it in years ..

morning had broken, i watched my grdaughter sleeping deeply, knowing she would soon have to wake, get going for school ..

Morning has Broken / Cat Stevens

i decided to look into this song/hymn. i was surprised at what i learned.
History - Lyrics:
https://www.godtube.com/popular-hymns/m ... as-broken/

Morning has broken like the first morning
Blackbird has spoken like the first bird
Praise for the singing
Praise for the morning
Praise for them springing fresh from the world

Sweet the rain's new fall, sunlit from heaven
Like the first dewfall on the first grass
Praise for the sweetness of the wet garden
Sprung in completeness where his feet pass

Mine is the sunlight
Mine is the morning
Born of the one light Eden saw play
Praise with elation, praise ev'ry morning
God's recreation of the new day

Morning has broken like the first morning
Blackbird has spoken like the first bird
Praise for the singing
Praise for the morning
Praise for them springing fresh from the world
i have seen alternate lyrics, “fresh from the Word,” which i like.
not sure which is original.
“The Story Behind Morning Has Broken”

The hymn originally appeared in the second edition of Songs of Praise (published in 1931), to the tune "Bunessan," composed in the Scottish Islands. In Songs of Praise Discussed, the editor, Percy Dearmer, explains that as there was a need for a hymn to give thanks for each day, English poet and children's author Eleanor Farjeon had been "asked to make a poem to fit the lovely Scottish tune."
A slight variation on the original hymn, also written by Eleanor Farjeon, can be found in the form of a poem contributed to the anthology Children's Bells, under Farjeon's new title, "A Morning Song (For the First Day of Spring)," published by Oxford University Press in 1957. The song is noted in 9/4 time but with a 3/4 feel.

"Bunessan" had been found in L. McBean's Songs and Hymns of the Gael, published in 1900.[5]
Before Farjeon's words, the tune was used as a Christmas carol, which began "Child in the manger, Infant of Mary," translated from the Scottish Gaelic lyrics written by Mary MacDonald.
The English-language Roman Catholic hymnal also uses the tune for the James Quinn hymns, "Christ Be Beside Me" and "This Day God Gives Me," both of which were adapted from the traditional Irish hymn St. Patrick's Breastplate. Another Christian hymn, "Baptized In Water," borrows the tune.
So, then, my question, was Cat Stevens a Christian?? :? No. But, raised Greek Orthodox.

His rendition of this hymn is so beautiful.
i have no idea where he was in his faith journey when he recorded it.

i hear the song as a believer. and it is beautiful.

"Fresh from the Word" is original. That's how I learned it before Cat Stevens popularized it. I didn't even notice he had changed that word.

Thank you for noticing now. i’m glad to know.
it adds to the song. (hollywood may have made the change. he was popular when it became popular to deny Christianity.)

My grdaughter quietly hums/sings to herself, she has since she was very small, it’s part of her way.
i love this, for me, most of all, it’s a sign of innocent joy in her heart; on a practical side, it helps us know where she is! lol .. like the author of this essay on “The Song in Your Heart,” i’m not sure of her musical talent, but, her heartfelt joy is “on key.” :D

Daughters of Truth / The Song in Your Heart
http://daughtersoftruth.com/the-song-in-your-heart/
.. When our daughter was in first grade, she wrote a letter to her principal requesting to have the opportunity to sing a solo in the upcoming school musical. He responded lovingly and appropriately with a resounding “NO”!
Years later, she asked me why I allowed her to ask such a thing as she became aware of her tone deficiency. I answered her by explaining that evidently the Lord had put a desire and a song in her heart that she needed to share. I did not want to quench the desire that the Lord had given to her to share a message, her song…If she did not sing it, she could live it!

And today, she is a gifted leader and teacher and LIVES the song that her Lord put into her heart.

Yes, I know that the Lord gives us His song to sing with our lives…to share with the world…and the source of this music is the Spirit of the Living God, His Word, and His presence in our lives.
And, our Loving Father sings over each one of His children…And our hearts hear His songs of love…

“For the Lord your God is living among you. He is a Mighty Savior. He will take delight in you with gladness. With His love, He will calm all your fears.
He will rejoice over you with joyful songs.”

1 Love not the world! Its dazzling show
Conceals a snare of death;
The sweetest joy earth can bestow,
Dies as a wasted breath.

Refrain:
Love not the world is Jesus' plea,
Sweet life to you he brought;
Alone with death on Calvary,
Your sin-lost soul he sought.

2 Love not the world! Its wealth, renown,
The blood-bought soul enslaves;
Oh, strive to win a heav'nly crown,
Which plumes of glory wave.

3 Love not the world! Its sin and strife
Exceed the good and true;
Oh, consecrate to Christ your life!
He drained death's cup for you.

4 Love not the world! Pure joys above
All earthly things transcend;
In Jesus lose each idol love,
And ever upward tend.

5 Love not the world! O Christian, hear,
In shining words impearled,
Shall on your holy brow appear,
"He did not love the world."

“Make me a channel of Your peace” / Prayer of St. Francis
♪ Prayer of St. Francis (song) ♪ official lyrics

1 Make me a channel of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me bring your love;
where there is injury, your pardon, Lord;
and where there's doubt, true faith in you.

O Master, grant that I may never seek
so much to be consoled as to console,
to be understood as to understand,
to be loved as to love with all my soul.

2 Make me a channel of your peace.
Where there's despair in life, let me bring hope;
where there is darkness, let me bring your light;
and where there's sadness, ever joy.

3 Make me a channel of your peace.
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
in giving to all people, we receive,
and in dying that we're born to eternal life.

Maybe this isn't quite what this thread is for, but I am going to risk stepping out of bounds a minute.
Does anyone know where I could find satb music for the song, "Peace like a river, flows through my soul"
I would even just take men's music. I don't need a recording of it, just the music.

(Not "when peace like a river attendeth my way")

I have looked to no avail. I admit to being a neophyte looker.

Any help you might be able to give would be appreciated. THANK YOU! :angel

Hymnary has a list of the books that include the song (assuming this / this is the one you mean). You should be able to find a new or used New Songs of Inspiration containing it on Amazon.
