Maybe not something that is gone from MN, but I do wish some of the newer members would participate. We had a big influx after the CAM thing dropped. Would be nice if they'd speak up more.

Re: What Do You Regret Is Gone From MD?
Just saw this again while skimming through. I second Que's particular, with the caveat that some of us ARE still here, we've just gotten older/busier and had to reprioritize. By way of disclosure too, though, in spite of my appreciation for diversity and my appreciation for some of the new folks and their perspectives, the general influx of distinctly less-conservative-Anabaptist folks, ideologies, and arguments (especially after the shift to MN) has been a diminisher for me as regards time invested in this particular forum. I remain mostly for feedback or interaction with the wisdom of the old folks like Wayne, Dan, George, Rhoda, and a few others...queserasera_2 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 25, 2020 12:25 pmTo be honest, this is what I miss. There's very few (particularly young) conservatives left here and those that are, post little.gcdonner wrote:For those who have been around since near the beginning of MD, you will realize, which many of the more newbies don't understand, that this whole adventure was started by an 18 +/- young man and it appealed mostly to very young Mennonites at the time, many/most unmarried. I was invited by a co-worker who fit into those parameters even though I was not strictly speaking a Mennonite and definitely was not in my teen/twenties even then. He thought I would enjoy the banter and suggested I get involved in the eschatology side of things, even before there was the setting up of topics. It was pretty much wide open and the threads could easily float from one topic to another.
Drove down near South Boston, VA last week and had a rather overwhelming urge to hear from Truthseeker (Marc Yates) once again. Someday soon, Lord willing.

Actually I was disappointed by the influx over the CAM thing. MN was becoming a scandal sheet when there were and are so many edifying things we could discuss, as we used to in MD.steve-in-kville wrote: ↑Thu Apr 29, 2021 1:40 pm Maybe not something that is gone from MN, but I do wish some of the newer members would participate. Maybe not…Wayne in Maine wrote: ↑Thu Apr 29, 2021 1:37 pm I still suspect there is a backup of the old MD database hidden or buried somewhere.

I see your point, just not sure I agree with the perception. Yes, we shouldn't be a sounding board for everything wrong with the mennonites. But we shouldn't be guilty of sweeping things under the rug either.Wayne in Maine wrote: ↑Thu Apr 29, 2021 2:30 pmActually I was disappointed by the influx over the CAM thing. Re: What Do You Regret Is Gone From MD?
i miss “that thread” in which Wayne described his experience with nuclear power and the FBI, and Searcher shared about her passion for raceway driving in Australia. (from my memory.) it was a thread for the unexpected. “Would you guess?” - or something like that.
there were some interesting contributions.

we were living in Vermont in those days

please correct where my memory is wonky.

2186 posts dumped on that rug, only exceeded by the Coronavirus thread. It seems a bunch of Mennonites and Mennonite hangers on should be able to top out some other topics.steve-in-kville wrote: ↑Fri Apr 30, 2021 10:01 amI see your point, just not sure I agree with the perception. Re: What Do You Regret Is Gone From MD?
FORUM SEARCH FUNCTION
i think something damaged the forum’s search function, maybe months ago.
presently, it works pretty well for recent searches (recent weeks/months). but no further.
of course, ALL of MD was lost to the search function. but MN’s search function seems damaged.
As above, i use “Paprocki” as a test word.
Other search options are to try to remember the CATEGORY you’re searching, then, the approximate date, then scroll back through pages, looking for subject lines. It can be lengthy. There are now categories that are full of topics with no replies.
In the past, i would sometimes try to use more unusual words, or remember others’ unusual words, for the purpose of quicker searches.
i believe it’s is a tech glitch. it may be too cumbersome to fix. it might be an easy fix. i have no idea.
or, maybe i’m doing something wrong.
the word search option used to work well. not perfect, but it worked pretty well.
on MD, it went ‘way back. it was fun to read some of the earliest posts by first members.
understandably, on MN, it went back to 2016.
but now, it only goes back a few weeks/months. i believe.
with few exceptions, the threads are there. locating them can be a daunting task.
i would be happy to learn i’m doing something wrong and there has been no tech glitch.

Timely.
2021 brought some sort of “software reset?” - Robert has again risen to the occasion for MN!![]()
The volunteers here are beyond dedicated.
i’m not sure if the search function will be as it was. or, maybe i have new tricks to learn?!![]()
my present search is for “Paprocki.” (that “should be” an easy one.)

Very very sorry to hear this as well. Had no idea she had been suffering, and so sorry for what your family is going through.
Thank you for sharing her Caring Bridge page, what a lovely lovely family. Why so many are getting cancer is hard to understand, we just lost a friend who went on to be with his daughter that had gone before him, with cancer too.

i’ve not had success with “wayback.”
VeryAlive, sullymusic, TruthSeeker, are missed. special memories. Theosis. (she passed before i joined MD.) so well spoken of, i felt i got to know her through others.
i agree, OJ is a master at finding old threads.Robert wrote: ↑Sat Sep 04, 2021 10:02 amCheck with OJ. He is a master at finding old threads.
They are not archived and can be searched and found using the right key words in searching. It can be tricky at times.
When we "archive" a thread, it is moved to a Mod only area and it can not be searched or read openly. We only archive things we see as problems or inappropriate topics. It is not done a lot. Most just get left to time and abundant new posts.
I hope you can find what you are looking for. I have spent time doing that and not always successfully.

Re: What Do You Regret Is Gone From MD?
Well I seem to remember more than one discussion that became quite warm back in those days. I was labeled a heretic by more than one, for more than one reason, but that is easy to overlook, since it depends on where you are who will call you a heretic. The oneness people think that trinitarians are heretics, the unconditional eternal security people think that condition security people are heretics and visa versa. If you hold to a different perspective on eschatology than the majority, you will be labeled a heretic and on it goes, oh and don't forget eternal torment vs a final consummation.Wayne in Maine wrote: ↑Thu Apr 29, 2021 2:30 pmActually I was disappointed by the influx over the CAM thing. I also recall some slashing in some of the divorce and remarriage threads... I tend to pick my threads a little more these days.

I also recall some slashing in some of the divorce and remarriage threads... I tend to pick my threads a little more these days.
i “landed” on MD near the time TNBauer (TNBaer?) and lesterb engaged in a shockingly heated debate on marriage-divorce-remarriage, it was intense. Also fascinating to me, i’d not known of the idea of separating or divorcing couples due to remarriage. i tried to read carefully between the heated words to try to discern what Light might be found in there. i was interested.
i could hardly believe my eyes regarding their discussion.
at the time, and since, i respected both men for being authentic believers doing their best to honor God.
TNBauer disappeared with MD, lesterb passed on.
their discussion, and several following, on MD and MN, opened up the Book of Hosea to me in many new ways.
prior, Hosea and Gomer had been a great mystery to me. a lot because in my experience, the book was never mentioned.
i found folks on MD who were prepared and willing to discuss it.
it reflects (to me) how very ignorant so many of us are about scriptures.
it’s one thing to know and make educated choices.
how awful, tho, the reality is, so many DO NOT KNOW and make “choices” in abject ignorance. so-so sad.
how can this be construed as a “choice?!”
