I’m glad my tire place just plays the weather channel and has newspapers in the waiting area.

I used to go to theaters back when videos and dvd hadn’t been invented. Now I watch them at home. I’m a sci fi fan as if you hadn’t guessed. I remember watching 2001: A SpaceOdyssey in the theater. Everyone came out talking about the ending and wondering what that movie was about. It was good to sit with friends and talk about the symbolism and other things.

Most 12 year olds just talk about other things and aren't really into symbolism.

Maybe not your 12 year olds. In 1968 we had a cool group of sci fi fans when I was 12. I bet y’all didn’t read Ray Bradbury, Isaac Asimov, or other sci fi writers either. We’d watch the Twilight Zone together too. Good times.

I guess life in way up in the mountains, or in a “holler” back then was paired with watching the latest hip movies.

documentation for math purposes.
12 years old in 1968. that means birth year is 1956.
that also means 70 years old this year.

(all dependent on the month, of course)

You're entitled to your opinion, but I'm also entitled to ignore that nonsense. another fb meme

That was an exciting decade fascinated with space exploration. Moon shots and Star Trek. Kids like us loved it didn't we. Our teachers talked about it and got into the symbolism and the possibilities of life on other planets. It gave us some great discussions. I think social media has deprived kids of those kinds of conversations.

Interesting. I guess that's just how life (and school) back in the holler was, eh?

There has been a significant amount of ambiguity regarding claimed ages, birth years, and so on on this forum. Perhaps you might be familiar with some of it.

I discovered Star Trek in the 3rd grade and fell deeply in love with science fiction. I read tons of it, especially Bradbury and Arthur C. Clarke.

When we were in America or after we moved here and visited my grandparents… we couldn’t wait for 4 PM when The Next Generation would air on the NBC affiliate.
